I think that in most WMAs there has to be an open season for some other game like rabbit or squirrel and you can use non toxic T shot, 22lr, 17hmr for hogs ect. There could be some special seasons though in a few WMAs look into PAL, i think they have a special shotgun season. Good luck.
That being said, don't listen to the other post. trying to say there are almost none left after dog season is a bad joke.. All current hunting methods allowed on public land combined barely put a dent in hog populations (which recover in a matter of months). Simply put they have way to many places to escape pressure, and reproduce way to damn frequently. The only place that has seen a significant decline in hogs is parts of PAL where LDWF has been using helicopters to harvest hogs the last few years. It may be easier before dogs get out there cause of pressure but don't worry there are plenty of pigs wondering around all year.

Yea there's no way there are hardly any left. It's impossible. I'd be using my bow only. I don't see why let one of the fastest reproducing animals have 6 months to breed on public land. Making it much harder for deer hunters (like myself) to harvest sufficient numbers each year. Not saying deer hunting was bad this year, just more challenging. But thanks for the replies.

HUNTED PRWMA SINCE THE 70'S. ALWAYS HAD GOOD SEASONS HOG HUNTING, UNTILL DOG HUNING STARTEDIN THERE SOME YEARS AGO. FIRST FEW COUPLE YEARS WITH DOGS, HAD HUNTERS COME FROM FLORIDA AND TEXAS TO HUNT PRWMA. HOG NUMBERS WENT DOWN A LOT. LDWF ISSUES PERMITS FOR LIVE TRANSPORT OF HOGS OUT OF THE WMA'S.TH0SE HOGS ARE BEING TRANSPORTED AND RELEASED ON PRIVATE PROPERTIES AND HUNTING CLUBS. ESCAPED HOGS FROM THIS AREA SPREAD OUT AND CREATING THE PROBLEM EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT.
THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH HOGS IN THE 70'S AND 80'S. IT ALL STARTED WITH THE DOGS AND THE BIG MONEY CHARGED TO HUNT HOGS ON 'PRIVATE RESERVES'.

Plenty of hogs in WMA's. We killed 10 in 2 hunts on a WMA this year.

Hogs have evolved and are much smarter, taller, etc. Over time, the 'weak' are killed but what you're left with are much harder to get. They're also very intelligent.

For example, hogs you find in the marsh are taller than they were 10 years ago. The shorter ones weren't as fast so were killed, those genetics not passed on.

Plenty of opportunity for hogs on Public Land, my son & I took 10 this past season.

Spring Squirrel Season coming up in May should be a good opportunity to catch a few off guard.

Lyle is exactly right in saying that Spring Squirrel Season is a time to take advantage of the opportunity to possibly sneak up on a hog or 2.I hunted Sherburne WMA just last Mon,Tue and heard tons of hogs breaking branches early both mornings while steadily paddling down Little Alabama Bayou and on Monday I could have easily slayed 2 but I was turkey hunting solo and it would have been a real chore dragging out either hog as both were probably close to 200 lb each and I was in a 2-man Chapman pirogue.I did talk to a WLF Agent and they said to kill as many as you can and they are legal to kill as long as there is a hunting season underway and you can only use the ammo for the season underway, meaning that for Spring Squirrel Season,a .22 mag would certainly be legal or shotgun with what you would typically shoot a squirrel with.Hope that helps.
