lake okhissa is done

Reply
I think I have made my last trip to okhissa lake in Franklin county mississippi, the past 3 times I have been I have caught a total of 2 fish and both of those were very poor looking. This place used to be great but something major has happened or I just don't know what I'm doing anymore. I fished deep points yesterday, ledges, shallow and deep banks and even tried punching in the trashy looking submerged grass they have. Does anyone know what is going on there and if yall are catching them how cause I have threw my whole tackle box at them and nothing works. But my assumption is that there is no food for them and that the population is just gone but I don't think I'm going back unless something changes

The Federal Government has cut the spending to the lake. With all of the budget cuts, some things had to go. Funding for food/fertilizer/upkeep on some Federal lakes were one of the cuts. That is what one of the agents told us last year. Said the fish were slowly dying.

That's sad then after all the money that was spent on building the place, that they would just let it go like that, what gets me is how they just all die off, but man I'm telling you I fished my butt off and didn't get a bite. It used to be nice to because when the river is high and the achafalaya is high I like to go there but I want waste the money anymore

That particular agent also said they were hoping the slot would be taken off. At least that way, people could eat the fish instead of them starving to death and rotting.
That's the Government for you...

I find it hard to believe that the lake is dying. It's not that old, is it? I would like to see BASS have one of their Day On The Lake series there. It would be interesting what they might do.

I've generally been feeling the same way about okhissa. I'll give it a few shots here soon on some sight fishing and see how that goes.

the shad and bream haven't reproduced for some reason . there have been times lately when the water is really clear you can see all the bottom in some coves and there is nothing no shad no bream . and the last couple trips I had there the fish have been very skinny and very few

We just went to okhissa weekend before last and did pretty good . Cool morning and light rain . They had alot of rain the previous week so it wasn't real clear but we did manage to catch 7 on spinner baits. One was app 4 1/2 #.

Maybe it ain't so bad. Me n the ole lady went today and got there around 1-1:30 and landed 5 good bass. One 5lber, two 4s, a 2 1/2-3lber and a small guy and we were outta there by 5 or so. It was entirely too windy to spot any fish bedded up, but every fish we caught was in shallower water, nothing looked like it was full of eggs. We did find a 6-7lber belly up, but was still strong. Idk if she was flat out exhausted from laying eggs or what, but every time I grabbed her she had plenty of strength. Hopefully she makes it

Okhissa is done. If I were yall I would not try it again 😜

Absolutely not dead. Theres tons and tons of live bait for the larger bass to eat. Try jigs and live goldfish or large shiners!

No it isn't done. There's a abundance of live bait for the larger bass and catfish to eat. Jigging and live large shiners or gold fish is the only thing that have been consistently catching big fish. 12.8lb caught on jig in picture I added jus 2 weeks ago
