This site needs more talk about lafitte.Ive been fishing down in this area, lafitte south of harvey cut and mud lake, for about a year. I grew up running around in upper lafitte just never messed around far down. ive found several sure fire spots, the obvious well known spots and several spots not so known. Went out a week ago and hit the trout pretty well in st. Joseph bay and got a few reds around red eye. Anyone else fishing in this area? Barataria, redeye, mud lake, bay cray, st mary, little lake, brussel lake, plum point, three bayou bay...and on and on

I fish Lafitte almost every day and have done this many years. We have caught fish from Lake Salavadore to GI and every year is different. This year we had one of the best trout falls ever. Any area a mile or two from Joe's landing was a can't miss trip. Then the west winds showed up and the cold weather and the fish moved to the canals. Now they are moving back to the gulf and you will catch them now from Mud lake South. There is always a few bass, reds and trout close but as the weather warms they will be less and less. If the river has a major drop and some good SE winds the shrimp will show up in the close spots for the next two months. But the river must drop and we must SE winds strong. In May you can have trips of a life time in Barataria bay on top water.

Actually I like that no one talks about it, keeps the traffic low! Started fishing the area a couple years ago and my son and I really like the area. Fish a lot in Turtle bay & Little lake, fish a couple cuts long the wall sound end of the the Bayous.

All of the islands in the bay will hold fish. You will see a group of boats fishing an area and you can bet this use to be an island so mark it on the GPS. 4Bayou and the beach is great fishing on a income tide which means good green water. With regard to crowds in Lafitte there is a underground line that knows when the fishing is good. Believe me when the fish are hitting there will be fisherman there soon. You can have one or two good days but the gang finds out fast. Was told use to have a guy at a home near the Pen that had a spy grass on you all the time. After a great day he was sitting in your spot with his friends next day. Always wonder where they came from out of no where. PS The old Garmin maps show all the old islands in the bay this is great information to have. Not only for fishing but for safety also.

Joe's Landing has live bait, you have to cross the swing bridge right before piggly wiggly and head south.
