How many trout are you aloud to catch in one day? Does it change if you give your fish away? What happens if you and 3 others fish catch 100 trout and you give yours to the others now do they have too many in their possion?

Re: limits
You can 'catch' as many as you want but you only keep 25 trout 12 inches and over in 1 day.
You can have 50 trout in possession on land.

Re: limits
some of the wording in the laws can get confusion. But on a boat 25 legal trout per person.

say if that boat had 4 anglers and had their 100 fish limit and dropped off an angler at the dock and ran to another launch they would be over the limit.

Re: limits
Actually to get technical it's 25 per person per day. Years ago a game warden stopped a man and his 6 year old son. They had 50 trout. The little boy was so proud he was bragging to the agent 'I caught 5 trout!'
The warden wrote the father a ticket for keeping 45 trout. He had been watching them with binoculars and noticed the father caught 45 and the child only caught 5. I know it's a 'jerk' move but that's how the law is written.
On land you are allowed a 2 day limit in your possession ie you're coming from a 2 day fishing trip. You can't go out in the morning and catch 25 and then to catch another 25 that evening and keep them.

Let me really stir stuff up....the 50 possession limit is just that. If you go on a 3 day or longer trip, you can still only have 50 in your possession. If you fish all week and limit out the first 2 days, you are done. You cannot keep a limit each day. That INCLUDES your freezer!!! I am not saying that LW&F will pop you on that but it is law.

Re: limits
Limits are per person, per day.

Too many folks believe that limits are collective; i.e, 4 people on a boat automatically equals 100 trout.

LEGALLY, each person on that boat is only allowed a maximum of 25 trout per day.

As the example shows below, bringing three kids with you does NOT allow you to catch and keep their limit or part of their limit too.

The easy way to explain this is like this. Two guys go deer hunting. The limit is one deer per person per day. Do you think it would be legal for you to shoot two deer that day just because your buddy didn't kill one?

Re: limits
I've heard lots of stories about asking the kid how many ducks he killed but never heard it on fish. The LDWF are pretty reasonable about this and have never insisted on seperate containers per angler and hopefully most days if 4 guys get 100 trout the split is pretty even. As to the freezer bit ........... if you make them mad enough they will count your freezer and add possession violations to your charges. That has been reported on illegal fish sales cases.

Here is a question ? I will reveal the answer later.
If i am fishing on land at night under the lights . I start fishing at 8 pm and fish till 4 am. How many trout am i allowed to posses?

Re: limits
Only 1 limit. you wouldn't be allowed another limit till 8pm. You can not have a two day possession while you are fishing, even though you are standing on land.

Hey Chris, it is actually legal to do that in some states. Certainly not anywhere around here though!
