I was looking for a little feed back on Minn Kota Riptide 55 Transom verses the 45. I have the 45 and have been reading. Is their much of a difference in performance, speed?

I went from 45 to 55lb on my small boat and saw no recognizable difference. I switched to a 24 volt and twice as fast, goes thru grass 3 times better. Will cruise even into a stiff wind. Hope this helps

First thing is, what size boat do you have ? Next is 45 to 55 12volt some added power. 55 lb 24v big difference. 24 volt is the ticket just depends on what size rig you have and how much space for another battery.

Mainly a Kayak. A while back my Pivot on the handle took a nice beating. It cracked down the middle, it still goes up and down but I was debating to get a 55 or just order the parts and fix my 45. I can hold 2 large batteries in the front. I had read it cuts well through grass. With this warmer weather I’m not sure if it makes a difference but I have noticed a lot more marsh grass. Typically with the batteries, myself and equipment I have right around 300 lbs.

Also biggest thing, for cleaning methods AFTER USE, I only use my 45 Minn Kota Riptide in salt water. I typically rinse the body off and gently wipe my handle and spray WD-40 on it. What is the best way to clean after use? Thank you for the ADVICE and early comments.

You can use 2 smaller lighter 12 volt batteries to keep your weight down if needed, you don't need big heavy batteries as you have 2 unless you plan on running longer distances. The speed power difference will be nearly double with 24 volt on that setup. That type of hull will fly with 24 volt. Just be careful that much power could easily flip boat if turned sideways when power applied. If you put wd40 on painted areas repeatedly eventually paint will pop off as wd will penetrate thru paint and break paint bond. A good freshwater bath will do. U could take off prop as water gets trapped behind prop area and more corrosion builds in this area. You could also scrub lightly with a little dawn.
