Redfish/worms

Reply
I have heard at this time of the year some reds get worms. I caught 4 nice reds, and one 17' did have worms on the side. Does anyone know why at this time of the year? Also are they just fatty tissues? Thanks

I have also foind them in specks and i imagine other species can as well. Get a pair of binoculars and look at a grey squirrel and chances are you will see places on them where flies have laid their larva. It's ugly. It's just the time of year when things are reproducing. Worms are worms not fatty tissue.

If its the small white worms under the skin like found in specks I would eat them. If its the worms like those found in large black drum I would not eat them.

Here is something from LSU..... I've cooked and ate them before... Natural part of the cycle.... I used to have a complex about them till I figured all these other people that won't eat them give me fish and they are normally already cleaned!!!!
