gig catfish?

Is it legal to use a spear/gig to catch catfish with.they have a place we frog and it is full of them swimming in the shallows.

It is my understanding that on private waters it is legal to harvest fish in nearly any way you wish. On public or state waters, spears are prohibited and gigs are allowed for flounder only.

I talked to a local(St. Francisville) game warden yesterday and asked about gigging catfish. He said it was not illegal since catfish are not game fish. He said the HE would not issue a citation for spearing/gigging catfish. He also pointed me to the complete set of Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries regulations (Title 56). All 391 pages of it...I will be reading for a while!

I see them shoot catfish on TV with a bow so not much difference right.
