We used mainly black worms on 3/8 ounce slip sinkers, and caught some on craw worms in some grass--- blue and also junebug colors.
I am slowly passing the torch to my two sons, and 6 grandkids. I have been fishing these marshes now for 54 years.... and have seen lots of changes, most for the worst. But, before it all falls apart for good... there are still some fish to catch. Hurricane Isaac hurt the area really bad for freshwater fishing 3 years ago, but it is finally making a comeback. My son Eric, in the pic, is the one who served 4 years in the Airborne and a year in Iraq... got back two years ago. So, I did not get much of a chance to do anything with him those 4 years. He has an extremely good eye, I reckon from watching for the bad guys, and can spot subtle movements of both baitfish and bass in the area. I had him down 10 bass to nothing, I was in the front. I gave the front to him, and he instantly nailed the two biggest bass. I gotta watch these guys.....

Nice fish! I fish this area weekly but have manly been focusing on the reds. I also served 4 years in the marine corps from 2001-05. Thank your son for his service and I am glad he made it home safe to enjoy the freedom he fought to defend! So many people take it for granted right now. They don't realize how many give all for there freedom.

I will pass it on for sure. I have the utmost respect for guys like you and Eric, and all U.S. veterans. He also payed a price, but is getting back to his old self again. Fishing is very therapeutic, and it sure helped me stay sane all these years. Eric and I competed in a bass circuit the last two years, Bass-N-Bucks... which came out of Texas. It drew the best fishermen in South Louisiana, and Eric and I won Anglers of the Year both years. He loved saltwater fishing more than bass fishing, but since he came back, it has kinda reversed.

Seems like we must have met around Lafitte fish it almost every day. Bass fishing has been off the chart this year with all the grass. We like top water mostly and light tackle. When we want to get the big boys it is braid and punching grass. One of my sons was in Navy and on his leaves we had to do fishing no matter the weather we went. This fall was the best trout fishing in years about a mile from Joe's. See you on the water you will know it me my top water baits make a lot of noise. PS Been fishing for over 65years started in Lake P. move to Hopedale and now past 15 Lafitte.

That is a great catch Capt! There are bitng for sure since the temps went down some. Had a great day last Thursday... boated over 100 bass. I thought I was in the old days for a time. I am 62, and have been fishing the upper and lower Barataria Basin for 54 of those years. Like you, I have witnessed lots of change. If we can keep storms away, we could have some nice size bass in the system again... like 2009 when I boated 4 over ten lbs.... 2 in one day. Eric caught one between 6 and 7 lbs. two weeks ago, and the fish looked like a March bass, huge stomach. Hopefully we will run into each other, before I leave the planet...Lol.

That is some nice catches guys. I have grown up fishing salt waters from Golden Meadow to Leeville. Never fresh water. Lately i have been looking for a new challenge. I am from Larose and have been launching in the intracoastal making my way to Lake salvador and bayou Perot and towards lafitte. Lately I have not been having any luck. I have tried multiple baits and areas. Im not sure if im just fishing the wrong areas/ canals or what is going on. Bass is like a totally different ball game and its addicting. Any help on which areas I should concentrate on would be great. Again very nice catches guys. And thank you for the service to our great country. You guys deserve all the respect!!!
