DUCK HUNTING

Here is and other reason y I did not like and Nov 7 Opening, we have high water in our marsh. We need a big cold front to get the water out, and we don't get them that early, and there all ways a chance a storm like we just had to mess up our duck blinds because we have to build them so early.By the way as of to day not a duck in sight.

Yeah the 15th is a world different than the 7th. No north wind predicted from now till opening day. And two more gulf lows, hope everyone has a high water spot for opening day. And I hope the aszhatz that pulled this stunt forget their bug spray and get their hides eaten off on the 7th!!!!!
The first batch of pul'deau have arrived in Bayou Bienvenue at least so here is hoping we will at least get to shoot some while we sweat and swat on the 7th!

Man, don't you know. Your marsh is full of grey ducks. You just don't see them yet. I can't believe they fill us full of such crap. We were on a good path with drought stricken grain field that wouldn't have had a drop of water to short stop birds......forget that now. I think it will be mostly a scratch unless you are hunting near one of the rivers.

aawaaan waaan waaan, duck hunters crying, i thought duck hunting was about being with your bros and having fun, thought hunting was about being out enjoying the outdoors, why is a successful duck hunt only measured by how many limits you kill and how fast you did it, were you at the meeting did you express your opinion on the early dates to who you need to, or you just get on the internet and cry about it

NELA and SE Ark are sitting good with water from that last low. We went from bone dry in our best spot to slap full over night . We still have a long ways till we open on the 21st.

Tuff I was at the meeting, and my lease had some birds a week ago. The reality is in the marsh it's just not pleasant to hunt till it cools down and the gnats decrease. Also it's harder to scout/build blinds and plan with the late October systems flooding the marsh. And mostly the LDWF & public sentiment favored opening the second week of November and the azzhatz on the commission crammed this down our throats just to show us they could!

Going to grass blinds in the AM, I will report on it in the PM. Here's hoping.

'companionship and the outdoors experience' makes a mighty thin gumbo!
I'll take a raw day with me, my dog and the ducks and then revel with friends over a hot bowl and a cold drink over me and the homies donating blood and skin to gnats and skeeters.

O, the meeting the season was to open on the 14 this was ok , but out of the meeting it's pull back to open on the 7 way down south this means high water, hot, gnats, skeeter and little to O ducks.

It's about $$$$$ it's sad everything revolving around duck hunting is coming down to money. I even had a gentleman in the know, tell me that the marsh holds much more food than a harvested rice field. So with that rational we here in south Louisiana should be seeing all those birds that stay in the fields of Ark and Miss. pretty soon. We all know better. If you wanna know where all this is coming from just ask a rice farmer. Oh wait they rice farmers they shouldn't be worried about zones and openings affecting them.

So at any rate, built blinds today. Water was high bug manageable, it will be high stacked on high again this weekend though. Saw decent numbers of ducks during the day, typical for Halloween. Greys and teal present. My ponds still had grass and I didn't see evidence of scouring of the bottoms as some had feared. Bugs are insane! Worst they have been in years! Sat a hog stand this PM, no Piggy's but saw 5 big flocks of greys dumping altitude and heading into the Biloxi marsh. Fishing is wicked, lots of boats and everyone caught. Stock up on off and shells! Bring dem poles and sparkle beetles too.

The last cold front push some ducks down were we hunt, but a early opening we lost 2 weeks of hunting we need a later opening date due to it's still hot in early Nov. and all so high water. We still have not ben able to hunt out of our blind due to high water this Sat. we had 2ft of water in our blind, ben using our pop up blind and at 2 we had 9 not a limit like the guide in the ice in ever blind ever time they go and on top of that most of duck or gray I had not shot a what we call french duck in years they stop in the feed ponds [ rice field] how about the teals were or day. That y we need all of Jan. With gobbler warming it's time they push season back that bull of the ducks pairing up in Feb. the ducks or still here in still med April no duck will go up north in Feb. look at new news all they talk about he how cold it is up there in Feb and March.

Re: DUCK HUNTING
Do you really want to set the season dates for the next three-five years based on this freak year that we are having? What happens when we have a cold winter next year and the birds are sitting in the gulf in January? Tuesday is December 1st, the water will still be high, and with this El Nino pattern, it doesn't look like it will go down anytime soon. You stated in one of your posts that you cant hunt out of your blind and that you are using the popup now. I think that this kind of adaptation will come in handy in the future. If you read this article, you will see the pattern that is coming.

Here we go! Climate change in effect....All I can do is laugh at the article by TWC. They can't predict the weather for tomorrow with any accuracy lol How can they tell me what will happen a year from now? haha

Noose...Why would the ducks raft in the gulf before the season? They don't raft in the gulf because of cold weather. Ducks are well-adapted to the cold and our marshes doesn't freeze-over (there's a all you can eat buffet waiting for them). In my opinion, the only reason they do raft in large lakes, bays and the gulf is to escape hunting pressure.

Re: DUCK HUNTING
Call it climate change if you want, but my point is that we shouldn’t set the dates based on this year because it is not a typical year. We should also not set the dates based on how we remember hunting as kids. We should use the data to spot the trends and plan for the future. We should also have a plan to deal with El Nino years or La Nina years or early Arctic Vortices. I can write this up as a Six Sigma project and present it to the Commission.

Re: DUCK HUNTING
How is setting the season date based on climate change related to six sigma? What is your target? Increased harvest?? Also, does the commission have a six sigma program?

Are you saying that ducks raft offshore in January because the temp in the marsh is too cold? They raft out there because that's where they aren't being shot at. It would make more sense to say they go to Mexico.

I hope the feds drop the limit to 3, outlaw anything over 6 HP on public land, and jack the stamp price up to $1,100.
