Best Opening Weekend in Years!!!

Shot two-man limits on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, we had two birds at 7:30, then had a limit by 7:45. It was even better on Sunday in the drizzle. There were flock after flock coming in to the marsh from the West, all morning long. After we shot our limit, we stayed to watch the show. Apparently, Wildlife and Fisheries desicision makers knew what they were doing when they set the dates this early. Thanks! I would vote for early dates every year.

Do your research before you make a statement like that. Overall poor opening day for most folks across the board.

Not a great opening weekend, just an average day of teal season....

early season sucks for 75% of the all south Louisiana hunters. A Nov 7th opener is a glorified teal season down here. Big ducks are staying safe and cool in Arkansas until there opener on the 21st. Ducks migrate from north to south last time I checked. The season dates were obviously set but an idiot or a liberal with alternative motives.

Have yall been out yet this season. I've found that with this high water, that ducks aren't where thay usually are. We moved around and found the big ducks this morning. One shy of a three man limit this morning.

Why must everyone here be so negative. this hunter had a great opening weekend and is sharing the pics and info from his hunt. just because you did not shoot any ducks for the opener doesn't mean you should degrade and put him down saying oh its just an average teal season. there is plenty of birds down here in south la some people just need to get off their lazy butts and scout them out. there are plenty grays down with a few wigeon and pintail mixed in. just because they aren't in the same spot they usually are doesn't mean its bad hunting. thanks noose374 for the post congrats on the limits keep em folding cheers

Anyone that think's moving the season up a week is an idiot. I attached a picture of 2 of 3 snakes we killed opening morning. It's a sad thing when you kill more snakes then ducks. And, on the back end, we have to look forward to losing a week when the birds finally get here at the end of the season.

I call bull. As much as i love to eat teal, there is a reason it's called big duck season and not teal season. Where were the big ducks opening weekend? Exactly. Limits reflecting the second split of blue wing teal season. Now we will lose a precious week of good hunting (in the right area) at the end of the season.

Are yall waiting on Mallards...cause they're not coming.
Yesterday, we shot 13 grey ducks, two widgeon and two teal, we passed on a lot of teal and waited on the big ducks. Sunday, we had teal landing in the spread with greys working, but in that rain, I didn't feel like waiting. Either way, for the last three weeks (since the harvest moon that teal and grey ducks migrate on), I've been watching these ducks use a spot that is usually high and dry. But with this high water it has just the right amount of water in it. Remember, ducks can't feed in 3 to 4 feet of water, so when the water is high, they leave their normal ponds and head for the shallow flats and the flooded grass.

moose374 U just said it high water , that y most of needed a later opening. This way we had a better change of a cold front to come in and push the water out and at the same time bring down more duck for a better opening, not ever one has a lease that there or able to move around on to fine the duck my lease is only 80a so when the water came up the were on maybe on my next door lease of 1800a or better and we also lose the end of JAN that when we do our best hunts we will be out this weekend and with this cold front it push out the water and no dot brought more duck down and might give us a good hunt. good luck to all this week end.

Very nice hunt noose... Jesus H Christ there are a bunch of whinny people on here! Yea they may have been better served if they'd not moved opening day up but on the other hand if we'd not had a monsoon a few weeks ago and if a couple of fronts would've pushed through in October these same people would've been saying how great the early opening is. To those saying they'll lose a weekend in January, go find a nice cozy piece of public land in the east zone to hunt...

I don't think people are whining so much as wanting what's better for our area. For years everyone I know has wanted the season to open later and instead it gets opened earlier. Fact is, it's 70 degrees in December half the time much less November. There hasn't been enough cold weather to push the birds down. Sure they have a few big ducks around but not nearly the numbers from last year when we had that strong front pass through for opening weekend. The ducks people are killing now are mainly teal with a few grays. Last years opening weekend we killed almost all big ducks with a few teal early, this year complete opposite. Why not open a week later and up the specks to 3 per person.

I think that the biggest issue this year is, with the high water, we have to work to shoot a good limit. You can't just sit in your normal pond that is 2 minutes away from the launch with two dozen shinny drake greenhead decoys. You have to find the birds. Sunday, I had to move to another area to finish a limit. I wound up shooting 15 poul'due also.

I don't hunt marsh but the people I know who do are killing mostly grays and teal, is this for you also? I hunt over flooded rice and we are killing pintail, grays, teal, and redheads. Seeing pretty much same every hunt, early flights and few big ducks.

Great Opening for us as well ... Nothing but limits grey ducks ... Don't get much better than that ... To all who continue to complain, it's cyclical ... Some seasons it sucks for us as well ... This season it's our turn ... Stop complaining and figure out how to do it.
