1st time kayak fishing in Louisiana

Reply

Hello fellow kayaker's. I have never fished in Louisiana waters before and after my brother fished in the boondoggle this past summer,I think I need to give it a go.!! I'm only getting 1 whole day to fish, so I'd love to make the best of it. I was wondering if I could get some info on where would be a good area to try and sight fish for some reds and tangle with some Ol snaggle tooths(trout). Lost lake looks pretty good. I will be fishing out of Delacorix December 3rd yes tomorrow morning :) . Better yet if anyone is going out and don't mind some company,I'd love to share some fishing stories, laughs and meet some new friends. I grew up fishing in Florida and now have a house in Texas and were on our way back now. I don't really know how the tides, winds and weather affects the marsh around that area, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..!! It looks like it's going to be a awesome day, weather wise, tomorrow. Is the water clear enough for sight fishing right now? I see it's going to be a north wind tomorrow. I will be in a blue native ultimate 12 if you see me on the water. Thank you

Lost lake is pretty good. I like to fish it in the evening time where mud lake dumps into it. I also suggest two other area which are very close. You could try the 'graveyard' or Little lake ( petit lake ). I have been catching a lot of trout and reds there. Go to sweetwater marina, and ask Captin Jack to put you on some fish. Good luck let us know how you do.

Thanks a ton.!! That's the area I have been looking at. I'm hoping to talk with them first thing in the am,before I put in the water. What's the water clarity right now? I'm also hoping to stay out of the way of duck hunters as well. They love there sport as much as I do. Hopefully one day I can do some as well.. :)

I second going and talking to Capt Jack. He's really nice and knows that area. He'll put you on some fish. Also, if it gets windy, that area has plenty of places to get out of the wind and still fish.

I plan on going to the sweet water marina first thing in the am,to talk to him. Hopefully I can catch him around 6am. I hope the wind will not be bad at all.!! But hey that's fishing..:) Do you think there is any reason to get on the water at day break with the chill in the air?

we would love to see you tomorrow morning at Sweetwater Marina. Capt. Jack will not be there until a little later tomorrow, but just ask for Mr. Ronnie. He will be able to point you in the right direction and put you on the fish. Hopefully Capt. Jack will be there when you get back. You picked a good time for your 1st Delacroix fishing trip. The fishing has been great this year. Good luck.

Sorry for not posting anything but just been really busy.!! Err
Well I checked another check on my bucket list. I got to fish in Louisiana.!! December 3rd I went out of Delacorix, wind was North 15 mph, water wasn't to clear and no sight fishing was going to be had. I still went, didn't meet up with anyone but I had a really good day On the water.!! I will definitely be back next year for sure.!!! I ended up fishing over in the 'graveyard'. Was paddling along trying to Ajust to a new area I've never fished,Lots of grass, wind howling and looking for what I call fishy looking spots,it all looked fishy to me tho. Came across a spot that didn't have any grass and it looked like what I fish in Texas,a pot hole. It was a about 30' no grass. Well I went past it a bit, staked out, started casting, put a piece of shrimp out that Mr. Ronnie had given me,that was about 9:30am and I didn't leave that spot til 4:30pm.!!! I can't ever remember catching reds like that. It was one right after another.!! I was cold wet and slimy as all get out but a very happy fishermen.!! I must have caught 30 beautiful golden reds.!! Until next year Louisiana
