Any Fresh Ducks?

Has anyone been to Delacroix area this week since the conditions have improved? I went deer hunting last weekend but heard those that went duck hunting struggled and had nut high water. Just wondering if I should take advantage of the great deer weather this weekend, or try to chase the birds before split closes. Thanks.

I think a few more teal, no new greys in what I killed (all fat fat when we cleaned them). Hunted 4 times in Hopedale in the last 8 days. Saw decent numbers 3/4 days. Limited twice. Good luck whether it's the stand or the blind!

Made a hunt in the Biloxi Marsh on Tuesday shot four greys an two drake spoonies. Saw good numbers of grey ducks, marsh was full of ducks but no hunters or fisherman to keep them moving. Looks like we will have a good second split out there.

Thanks for the feedback. I have talked to a few others who went yesterday or today and the resounding thing I am hearing is the saltier marshes (Hopedale, Proctors Pt., Biloxi) are seeing and killing good numbers of Greys. The guys on fresher marshes ( Oak river, Lake Lery) are not doing as well. Hopefully the tides stay at bay to some degree this weekend. But with a stiff NE the next few days; I'd say it will be up again for the weekend. Good luck to all and if you slip out on Friday, please report. Thanks.

My son and a friend went out to the lease in southern Terrebonne Parish this past Wed-Fri right after the front and limited each day. We did terrible over the weekend. Just spoke with a buddy that hunts Venice and it was slow for them this past weekend. Another friend hunts Grand Chenier out west and they smashed them every day. Guess it depends on where you are? We have had tremendous seasons for 10 years now. Talked with a number of lease holders around us and they all claim it has been their worst ever! We need some weather bad.

We hunted in Pecan Island first split, the blind we hunt did real good shooting 107 ducks in 11 hunts. Everyone else we talked too had real bad first splits all around us, way to much water, and not enough cool weather. Hope the second split brings in some new birds to finish off the season.

Hunted Friday with my boy on Biloxi, we shot twelve greys, hunted till eleven, had to wait for the marsh hawks to move birds. Saw good numbers of greys out there again. My boy hunted the Delta NWR in Venice Saturday and Sunday, he and his friend shot there limits of greys and pintails Saturday and two more friends of his met him down on Sunday and they shot four limits of birds, a mixture of greys, teal. widgeon and pintail. Although the first split was slow, my son managed to shoot his limit on every hunt. He hunted Salvador WMA, Biloxi, Babtiste Collette and the Delta NWR. He has become an exceptional waterfowler and I am very proud of him.
