Are the specks in Wilkerson canal? I live in Mississippi but grew up in La. fishing this area back in the 70's-80's. Man, we caught some reds and specks during the cold fronts in Wilkerson.

Thanks for your reply. I just realized you are in Hermitage.... It has been many years since I was there. Is it still a gravel road when you turn of Hwy. 26 to your place? My boys and I used to love to fish there in the winter. We caught nice reds across the lake to the left of the pumping station. and then we would run back to the , I think they were called 'the private canals' and catch beautiful bass, reds and specks on the same plastics. Is it still that way? I would love to plan a trip with my two sons.....please let me know and thanks in advance. Great memories of Lake Hermitage and an ole friend that passed away ( Johnny Marcasee) had a camp there for years.....regards, kenny guess

Kenny I new Johnny he had a camp across the bayou, he was a good man. The specks are slowing down the last 2 weeks. It might be just the bad weather we been having because I don't think the water temp is cold enough yet to push them out. You might want to wait until April when the spring bite cranks up. That's when we start catching on the south side of barataria bay near 4-bayou pass.

How is the road leading to your launch. The last time i went down there about 2 years ago, i can back and it took my back a week to recover. That and damage to my trailer was enough for me to change launches. Shame though cause u are in a great location.

Can you still catch bass in the area without a long run? Are the 'private canals' still good fishing? Never could understand why they were called that because they were not private....at least that is what I think.

...just hope the road stays maintained...it would always shake 'ya ball joints off...cheers

The parish grades the road every Friday. Also the parish is telling us the road should be black toped by the end of this year.

Not too many bass around anymore, however the pipe line canals you were talking about held trout until the end of December.
