Has anyone else heard that a certain local celebrity from Pierre part has put up a gate across the canal in lake verret just south of michelle canal? Wondering if anyone can confirm this? Also hearing gates are being put up in the orange grove canal.

I heard today that they are not only in the process of gating all Orange Grove canals, but all 70 mile canals. Those are two of the best bass/sac-a-lait systems in Houma. It is really nice to be rich in Lousyana.

Yes, on the west side of Verret. If anyone is interested... a WHOLE bunch of folks from around Louisiana and the nation are signing up to a group just formed today to see what can be done about locking the public out of the coastal region. It is on facebook... Louisiana Sportsmen United. Sign .up and show your support

A canal in Bayou Des Allemands is in the process of being closed off with hundred gallon barrels cabled together. Seen that Sunday past.
Landowners have been in this game way too long to lose. They have the money and land to take certain individuals hunting and fishing on. Show them a good time you know.
When you tinkle against the wind, some returns to soil you. Those gates may go the way of 3 strands of barbed wire and posted signs. Just be a deputy waiting for you to trespass and confiscate your equipment while arresting you for criminal trespass.
You know what swamp people Willie would say, Good luck to ya.

That Rabbit is already in the pot. This started some 50 plus years ago at Yankee Canal when they took over the hold west side of Golden Meadows. Big money talks case closed. Broadhead the old LSU AD had a camp back then in the area. The problem nothing will be one the right people have the key to the gates.

I see in The Advocate today that this 'celebrity' is offering a $1000 reward for someone who gives information as to who damaged his gate to HIS canal........

If there is any question who installed this gate in Lake Verret canal, read this article from 'The Baton Rouge Advocate':

I'm going to play the unpopular devils advocate. Louisiana property law distinguishes between navigable and unavigable waters as to whether they remain private or not. There are several areas of the state right now that are clearly 'navigable' when the ms river is up. Does everyone think that since their high end deer lease can be accessed by a flat bottom boat it would make it open to shoot one of their big deer or ducks sitting in their woods? I think not. I agree with the coastal issues that have been subject to hating in the past but disagree w the majority here on the issues involving the canal in Pierre part since the water is currently at record levels.

never got enuf!!!! fame n fortune can turn a good guy into a greedy guy sometimes!!!!

Specksnducks.......that canal is accessible by boat 365 days a year regardless of water level. I understand the property is his but the ONLY thing that gate is doing is denying access to PUBLIC FISH. The whole argument that 'its to keep poachers off private property' is BS. Any poacher can get onto that property from any other bank. And navigable water is water that ebbs and flows with the tide......high water flooding property does not make it legal to go on someone else's property.
