Big Boy

Went fishing for Bull Reds and had a surprise pop up. He drug around the Kayak for a bit and was not a happy camper. Thankfully some local crabbers tied me off and had a hatchet. Took about 10 good hits and he was done. Weight was between 70 and 90. Caught a few good bull reds and released them. Just wanted to thank the local crabbers down in the Du. Normally I do not target Gator Gar, but I could not find any regulations, take per day or size. Does any one know this informaiton? Thanks

Why would you kill it if you had no idea what the regulations on it were? Did you at least eat it?

Dsires, it appears that you are commenting for the first time (under this name). This fisherman is free to do whatever he wishes with his catch without any interference from any of us.

Most things you smack in the head with a hatchet will squeal. Pigs, opossum, armadillo and such.
Glad fish don't. Except for one. I was fishing for lemon fish and was trying to use a puffer fish for bait. Every time I cast out the little bugger would blow up like a balloon and float. So I smack him on the head and he squealed while deflating. I shudder every time I think of that experience.

You can go to La. Dept WLF and find all you need to know...It is a good eating fish but I wouldn't go around beating fish in the head not knowing what it is or if its legal to keep...

AR. That bugger had a lot more sense than most people. He knew enough about the need to stay on top.

Boy I am old can remember when no one would keep a red fish or drum and a sheephead (Bay snapper) was never keeped. Always remember this story. Going on a trip to fish the rigs. One guy keep saying that he loved shark and it was must better than red snapper the catch they were after. One guy spoke up I will give you all my shark for one bag of your snapper no reply and end of how good shark was.
