Match the Hatch

Its an old saying in fishing that if you want to catch fish you have to match the hatch. Yesterday while filming Casting Cajun with Tony Fontenot we were on the trout and this shrimp came out of a trout we caught. Next to it is the Berkley Rattle Shrimp in Coastal Candy color. It was one of the only baits that caught larger fish this day. Tony had all of his rods rigged with that other plastic shrimp but only caught small trout. He learned quickly and I had to hook a pack on his line so he could have some in his boat. Jay Paul of Swamp People fame was on board getting the kids involved in fishing. Everyone had a great day. There is nothing better that bringing kids fishing. #capttommypellegrin, #kysek, #berkleyrattleshrimp

ha that rattle shrimp looks like cheap plastic junk, but i am sure berkley appreciates the plug, does this count as a fishing report or an advertisement?

Re: Match the Hatch
tuffhunting this report is absolutely 100% an advertisement. This advertisement is meant for those people who want to know what the fish are biting on right now and how our local celebrities get together and show KIDS how much fun it is to fish. If you can't be happy that we took kids fishing then no one can help you be happy.

Re: Match the Hatch
i am happy that the kids got to fish good for you and JP, we do need more of that, but that don't look like a fishing report to me, i know the rules are different for Captains and Sponsors, but i just wanted to put my opinion there, isn't that what a discussion forum is for

tuffhuntinn......
sorry to interrupt you but I am just curious as to why you think your first comment is necessary....? I would think most people would have more important things to worry about on a daily basis than trying to find a negative aspect of a great post. Forums are for voicing your opinion, I know that, but all the negativity on this site today wasn't around when I first joined years back. It's just shame to me because myself and so many of the people I know from back in the day with this site don't even bother with this forum anymore for this exact reason. It is your opinion and sure, it is well heard but c'mon man thats just so unnecessary.

Thanks for the post Capt. looks like ya'll had great day in paradise. Keep the posts coming because it gives me something to keep myself occupied during breaks in my classes here in Baton Rouge. One day closer to the weekend. After my last class Friday I am heading southbound to the camp. Cant wait

Re: Match the Hatch
you see a great report, i see a captain plugging a bait, if 80% of this post wouldn't have been talking about the lure then i would have not posted, if he would have made the whole post about the kids fishing he would have gotten a few positive responses

...we sincerely hope Jay and his TV shows' image is rebuilt and re-polished...there was a 'rumble of ownership' about 'their' private gator canals not too long ago...Geronimo sez kiss and hugg some juvenile gators for him, they also think they owned the canals ??? and lets get 'On 'da Road Again'...by Willie Nelson...cheers

p/s...Tuff, the cadaver 'bait' does look sick from lack of oxygen... 'eyes' should be 'bright and cheery and happy' ..legs and wiskers will also help...the comparison pic should never been taken the best thing about that shrimp is his 'Spin' name ...( prognosis: from Dr.Rabbi Wabbit MD - Director of Fishing Bait Morgue...Cut Off ,La)...cheers

tuff....you may want to seek professional counseling.

Capt. Tommy, thanks for the report.

I clearly see why some of the pro's have limited or just stopped making posts.

Greed, ego and envy by bitter old men have ruin this site.

Good job getting those kids out there, Captain Tommy. If a few more people took kids fishing and stopped nay-saying on websites, we'd leave the next generation a little better off.

Re: Match the Hatch
Actually, Captain tommy uses these baits all the time. You can call it a plug if you want, but the fact that he uses this bait on a daily basis shows that it works. what about when everyone talks about matrix shad? Same thing. How would you ever know about the shrimp that tommy was using if he didn't do a report like this? you must be that person that wants exact coordinates to where everyone is? Myself, all I need to know is a general area. That's what these captains do, so that YOU can have an idea of whats going on in an area. Imagine if the captains didn't post at all. This forum wouldn't have half the reports they have.

You can also go back and look at some of Captain tommys past reports and see that he does go into great details sometimes. He even made a comment a few weeks back to someone that wanted to bring his kids fishing. He told them exactly what to do and where to go and even told him to call him to know more information.

Still feel the same about him? Then you are whats wrong with this forum.

Re: Match the Hatch
Anyone that takes a group of kids fishing needs a medal not any problems. No one can tangle a line like a kid. if there is a rod on the floor it is going to be broken and they always find a way to throw over the most expensive rod and reel. Food and snacks are also a must. All worth it after the day when they talk about the trip and the big one they saw and got away. They do make you feel young.

I agree Capt.JS. one of the best memories I have is of my daughter being scared of the big yellow bumble bees flying around her. The next trip I brought a badminton racket for her to knock them into the water with. Her in the back of that boat waiting for them to show up was priceless.

Just like an Admiral it takes Billy Budd to set him straight. My post only said kids on a boat there is no wrong. Better look out are you may be rowing a boat and not having dinner with the brass.

... any class celebrity thing should have the option to pick a quality product to reflect the image and intergity of success...ever seen John Wayne driving a beat-up Henry J or a Crosley ??? ...some lure injection makers must be laugh'n all the way to the bank with at least a 300% profit out of a innocent kids' piggy banks...funny how 'things' can go in the wrong directions...cheers ???

P/S ...' Tuff you must feel like Donald Trump, 'ya say 'da truth and 'ya got jumped '

Re: Match the Hatch
The only true bait that caught fish was the helicopter lure understand it sold about 42million plus. Remember Jerry Clower talking about he only got a few thousand for doing the commercial that sold them and would never do them again for a set price. What is the guinness record for lures on a bass pro shirt boat and truck.

Thanks Capt for the report. I always like you reports and your review of different lures/baits. I have all used the Berkley product and have had great success.

...you got me on that one Capt JS....but rumors were Wal-Mart bought all the over-runs out of a wharehouse and they did well unloading them ...after the inventer blew thousands on TV adds...the name was copy-writed but don't know if design was patented...we too have a top secret crazy design but have cold feet when it comes to invest...been told a 'Confidential Agreement' lasts for only 18mos...a 'slow' USA attorney can grab it and run... if a 'Made in China' attorney don't catch him first...cheers

P/S...it's too much to late in life for legal games w/rats that hold hands... cheers ???

ha it don't bother me none Admiral, that is just what this world is falling to, people want to hear the truth till they hear it, too many people grew up being told '' if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything'' and we don't keep score in little league so we don't hurt no feelings, ''sissufucation of america some call it''
