Arm is killing me

Reply
Bought my first bow a couple of weeks ago,a hoyt power max...currently set at 50lb and 27.5 draw. I shot a dozen or more arrows every day for a week sighting in and working on form...now my bow arm (left arm) is super sore right under my shoulder almost like I pulled something, not a little sore,I can't push too hard on things without it hurting like hell. I'm fairly active, what's going on here?

Probably using muscles you haven't used before. Keep shooting should get better before Oct. LOL. No seriously hopefully its just a strain or something simple.

im hoping its something simple...im taking a break for about a week. Wasn't sure if it was normal to feel that type of pain in that spot.My bow grip is pretty loose....anyway it better be good by Oct,Bambi is going down!

so did some research and looks like its a rotator cuff injury which basically translates to yeah some type of muscle or ligament tear. when i first started shooting i did have a death grip with my bow hand and locked straight arm which is bad form and probably caused more strain than usual in the beginning.Of course even with proper bow grip, you are still pushing with your bow arm and because im hard headed i continued over shooting when i knew my arm was sore and probably needed rest,i caused some type of tear. treatment just calls for ice/heat and pain meds like ibuprofen. just wanted to post update for others that experience this. going to start doing some weight exercises specifically targeting those muscle groups once healed up of course to help train em and prevent this type of injury.

I hate to be that guy but the best advice I can offer is go to a doctor. I know too many people who wrote off seemingly minor injuries to soreness who now have permanent life altering injuries. It may not seem like that big a deal, and it may not be, but remember you only get one. Let a medical professional check it out. The fish will still be there tomorrow.

Solid advice. ..it just so happen to work at a hospital so it's nothing for me to check it out during my shift

Im a recurve shooter. The year before last I had the same issue. Hurt really good. Mine turned out to be a middle deltoid strain. Fortunately, I too work at a hospital. Just so happens one of my coworkers was a PT certified in dry needling. I suffered for weeks with hard headedness till I asked for help. She did a really good eval to make sure that it was what she thought it was before needling. Got better very quickly. Of course though, when dealing with a shoulder, it could be so many things. So you want an accurate diagnosis.
