My wife and I went out this afternoon to fish a few bream and crappies on a private pond on a family member's land. All was good, she loves perch jerking and was having a great day catching bream after bream on crickets. Just earlier she had released a small bluegill and told me she thought a bass took a shot at it when she tossed it back in. Not long after that when her cork went under, she set her hook, and we knew she had a bass on, at first thinking she had a nice one but had no idea how nice until she came up and we saw that bucket size mouth! Long story short, 10.5# on 6 pound mono, Walmart light spinning combo, with a small brass bream hook. How that tiny hook held up I'll never know, but she played that bass with finesse, using skills she'd learned from many hours fishing red and specks. But yeah, she was some kind of excited after this one and since she bested my biggest by a pound, I'll never hear the end of it! We did release her in another, much larger pond on the property to fight another day! I'm one proud hubby!
