Black Bear Sighted

Reply

Weather must have it moving-was driving down to Weeks Island today and spotted a black bear crossing the highway near Morton salt and old strategic petroleum reserve. It came out to edge of road and then back to woods. I was able to drive up to the spot it came out and see it on the edge then it ran into woods after I stopped. I also spoke to a few people at the port of west st mary and they are out in fair numbers at night. Pretty neat experience-never seen one in wild this close.

Grrrrrrrrrrr!
I worked out of the Ivanhoe/Texaco dock next to Port of W. St. Mary for the last year and a half, and plenty of times our boat skippers would see em out there at night in the dumpster. I even had paw prints on the side of my truck before, guess he was smellin somethin in ma truck! I started cleaning my truck out before I went offshore from then on.

BEARS
I HUNT IN THE WEEKS ISLAND AREA AND THE BEARS TORE UP ANY FEEDER THEY COULD POSSIBLY GET TO THIS YEAR. WE'VE GOT PLENTY PICTURES ON THE TRAIL CAM. I'VE EVEN SEEN FRESH CLAW MARKS RIGHT ABOVE A STAND I'VE GOT ON A LARGE CYPRESS TREE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I CHECK THE HELL OUT OF THAT TREE BEFORE I CLIMB UP!

I used to run towboats through that area all the time and would see bears pretty often at the mine. I watched one walk into the conveyer shed where they load barges with salt.... the bear walked into one side of the shed and a bunch of people started running out of the other side of the shed... It was hollarious....I was standing by at the barge dock watching this happening.. It was awesome.
