Braided line

I'm going out to buy a Stradic 3000 for speck fishing today. I've never used braid on a spinner but am thinking about 20# Powerpro and a 7' MH rod to go with it. Any suggestions on line and rod? I've got an older Stradic 4000 and it's been my favorite so I thought I would splurge a little. Is the 3000 too light for salt water jigs and popping corks?

3000 is perfect size. I like the 50 lb braid the smaller sizes are just to thin for my eyes n makes it hard for me to to knots. I use a 18 inch mono leader to tie jighead.

I've got a Stradic 3000 and 3 Symetre 3000s that I use for inshore saltwater fishing. I use either 12# test mono and 20# test power pro on these reels and they work fine even with 25-30 pound bull reds as long as your drag is set appropriately. I use no leader when tight lining lures and I use a 20# or 30# test mono leader when using a popping cork. I just spooled one of my reel with 20 # test Sufix 832 (an 8 strand braid that is smoother and supposedly doesn't make as much noise when reeling it in as the older braids), but I haven't used it yet. I will be using it for the first time this coming week. Power Pro, P-line and others also make 8 strand braids that are similar.

Thanks for the comments. I wound up getting a Stradic 4000 because that's all bass pro had left in stock. Apparently there is a newer version out so they're selling off the current model. Still very small and light. I spooled with 30# simply because I had a new spool in the house already. I'm playing around with knots to attach mono or fluoro.

Medium heavy rod may be a bit much for specs in my opinion.. Personally I use the 7' medium light Duce trout rod. To me it helps me feel the subtle bites. Throw some 20# fluorocarbon on your reel and you can feel em looking at the shrimp before they bite it.. For artificial and reds I use a 7' medium action Castaway with 30# braid.

I use a double uni-knot, 6 turns on both knots. Strong and slim connection, flows nicely through the guides.
