Offshore Report
All I can say is this has been a great
start to June and it appears that it's
going to be an outstanding summer! The
tuna fishing has been consistent and
they seem to be everywhere. From the
shelf rigs all the way out to the
offshore floaters. The only negative I
can find right now is that small
hardtails and discos have been hard to
come by but luckily the pogies are
extremely thick and easy to cast net.
We have been catching the yellowfin on
live baits, chum as well as on poppers.
And these fish are not all summer
schoolies. We are seeing some true
studs out there. Another bonus is the
Mahi Mahi are finally starting to show
in numbers and that should do nothing
but improve as the summer heats up.
Rig fishing has been good as well and
with the federal Red Snapper season
open, we will continue to grab a limit
on the way in from tuna fishing. In
addition to the red snapper, the scamp
have been so thick you can target them
with livies and jigs and the cobia and
mangroves are also hanging out on the
same structures.
Remember, the Federal Red
Snapper season for charter boats runs
through July 17th so get in on this action.
