Captain Marty LaCoste just posted photos of a boat full, maybe he will chime in with some pointers? or you might catch him at the marina while you're there.

I think you best bet is to hit the coast to find decent size Trout,Pickets Reef has been producing good numbers. It can be a parking lot though right about now, lol.Good luck, pick you a good fair weather day to go out there, can be a lil dicey!!

Re: Whats the word on Dularge?
We caught 30-35 trout just fishing the main bayou out of Falgoust marina. We didn\'t even make it to the lake. Dead shrimp under a cork had the most action, but using swim baits yielded bigger trout. Average size was around 14\' with plenty of throw backs. Snagged a nice red by the grass bed in one of the cuts. There were plenty of reds around just nothing wanted to play. \r\n\r\nWe hit something big with the troll motor on the left bank right before the first pilings. Luckily we were in a small boat and was able to get over it. I\'ll post a pic of about where that was in a second.

Marked in purple. That is exactly where it was +/- 50 feet.

when fishing the pickets should we use Carolina rig live bait or double rig artificial? Just curious of how everyone else fishes that are. its a vast area to cover is it best to concentrate to a general area or move around until you find the fish? thanks for the help

Troll around and have everyone in the boat on a different bait. Once someone starts catching then switch to the bait they have. Carolina rigs, artificial, swim baits, and popping corks all have potential.

Swim baits are my favorite just because you can work them around really well and they come in every color you can think of.

If your boat is big enough ( > 20 ft) I'd make a trip to the Maris gras rig. 25-30 minutes ride from the launch. I've gone out there in a 16 ft aluminum. If you pick a good day it is not bad at all. I've never been skunked out there. Someone could post points if your interested.

We are going in the morning, will launch out of juggs. Have a 22ft bay boat so have enough boat and have the coordinates but have never fished it. Same scenario? pick a corner and start working the area with both live and artificial

Pickets have three buoys, reefs are square shaped 4 acres in size, use tandem rigs vudu tiger shrimp, wedge tail egret mullet chicken on a chain my favorite set up. .Fished slow on the bottom dragging the rocks,it's at the most 9-10 feet deep. The trout will pick it up,you may sometimes have to swim the bait. But most times slow on the bottom,Expect a crowd and be courteous. Some folks think they can get right on top of you..Good Luck!!

Just be careful running through the lake. \r\n\r\nThat rig is very interesting. One time we fished for over an hour with 0 bites. We had croakers, shrimp, and larsh. Not a bite. Right before we left someone threw out a piece of artificial and immediately got a bite. After that we caught 4 limits in no time. Most important thing is finding the bait. \r\n\r\nTie up to the rig down current and start throwing lines. It is a sand bottom so an anchor is useless. Have everyone on different baits like I stated above. I never remember catching much on a cork or top water baits out there. I like using artificial with a light weight attached. \r\n\r\nThere are plenty bull reds in the area. We usually drop a cracked crab behind the boat out of the way of where we are fishing and let it sit. Use a heavy weight and you will snag something.

Edit: you will see a rig before you get to the Marsi Gras rig. It looks tempting but I personally never caught much there besides catfish and drum. Don't waste too much time at it.

left juggs at 4:55 and got to the pickets just before light with only three other boats there. within 15 min of us arriving we had at least 30 other boats around us. at daybreak the the shrimp started flipping and the trout were right behind them. we finished with 60 trout on matrix shad avocado and ultra violet. nice day on the water
