Suggestions With No Bitching

OK folks, now that everyone has vented whatever dislike they may have for the new format, how about making suggestions for features you would like to see. Keep it positive, and don't even bother suggesting a return to the old format.

Here are my top three.

1. A 'view first unread comment' button on each thread.
2. A button just below the last post on each thread that will return you to whatever forum you are viewing.
3. Have the narrative part of a post above any pictures in the post, rather than below the picture(s).

Tony, here\\\'s a suggestion. How about an icon of some sort indicating that the original post that started a thread has pics attached. Reason? I like to see pics as I'm scrolling thru the posts. Sometimes I might venture thru the Offshore topics, for instance, and like to look at the pics. then read the associated story. As it is now, you have to look at each thread to see if there is any pics attached. Just an idea.\r\n\r\nAnd while I\'m here, why does the text of a post go all the way to the end of the line and cut off words instead of putting the complete word on the next line? Very hard to read a post with broken words.

I like that one Mikey. A picture icon would be great.

I don't have that word wrap problem on my PC, but do on my phone. It's not a big deal for me because I mostly use the PC. But I agree, and would rather not have it than have it.

When I post a pic on my pc it goes back to the start and I have to start the whole process over. Ya'll may get a lot of views but now it takes me about 30 seconds on my phone to check it. I used to browse a lot but now it only takes 30 seconds to see but 30minutes or more to post pics. Iused to love to read guide posts but without pics I seldom click on them now.

hunt r,

I'm confused about your question on posting pictures. There is an 'Add Images' button right under where you post and you click there to add your pictures. Did you miss the button? The 'Add images' button also appears below the Quick Reply box that is below all comments and if you click the reply button in a post it also appears there. Did I miss your question? Please let me know. Also, is there a problem with being able to browse thru the reports in 30 seconds now as compared to 30 minutes? We will have picture icons added to posts in a couple of days. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for your reply Tony, sorry I confused you. Its much easier to check hottest reports on my phone but I just assumed ya'll would want people to spend time browsing/shopping/guide viewing. When I open on a pic with my pc then hit submit it returns me back to the start, then I have to click on pics, select a file, scroll thru hundreds of pics, select one, click on it, open it, then start the whole process over, the other way it stayed on the same file so I only had to scroll thru pics to find another. Several times I have gone thru the process for multiple pics then it only posts the last one I picked. Thanks for any help.

I'm on a PC with a Windows Vista operating system. Let me see what happens when I try to add multiple pictures. I'm going to click on the 'Add Images' block below the quick reply box, then select two pictures from the pictures file in my PC.

OK, it added the first one immediately below the Quick Reply box. And I'm able to add this additional text in the Quick Reply box. Now I'm going to select another picture from my file by clicking on the Add Images box again.

Once again, it added the image immediately and allows me to add this additional text in the Quick Reply box. So the system seems to work fine on my PC. I will now click on the Submit box at the bottom of the Quick Reply page.

Well, when I clicked on Submit the system immediately returned me to the top of this thread, and my post above was at the end of the thread. But it contains only one of the pictures I attached, even though two pictures were showing below the Quick Reply box when I clicked on Submit.

I'm going to try adding another comment with two pictures and see what happens.

OK, I selected two pictures from my file and both show as small pictures below the Quick Reply box. I will now click on Submit.

EDIT: Bummer. Once again when I clicked on Submit the system returned me to the top of the thread. But the added comment contained only one of the two pictures. It appears the system saved the appropriate one. :-)

How about adding the old feature where we could search hunting and fishing reports by areas?

Yes, will add that back in. Shouldn't take long. Thanks again!

A few additional suggestions

Search button on home page on my mobile device is not present ... Shows up on desktop. I often read older articles and it was helpful to be able to search the site

When you click on profiles to read post of users seems to cut off at screen length . Used to be able to read any post someone ever posted. You could also see there pics posted on the profile.

Thanks, we will be adding the search button back in. That's one we didn't catch.

We took the profile picture gallery off. All the pictures from a particular poster are already in the post or comment. The gallery was redundant and takes a lot of storage capacity on the site.

Are we now able to attach more than one photo to a comment? Yep! Nice going guys.

Another suggestion. When I edited some of my comments and clicked on 'Submit', the edit was made as intended. But the system then returned me to the master forum list. It would be better if it returned to either the thread that was edited or the forum being viewed when the edit was made.

Yep. Thanks

I'm often tempted to post something of a political nature, but am hesitant to do so. The only appropriate section would be the 'General' forum, and I'm not sure that section was really intended for political issues. With the upcoming Presidential election maybe we should have a 'Politics (Keep It Clean)' forum. My guess is it would generate a fair amount of traffic.

There was one at one time here, but the administration couldn't take the heat. Some people are so sensitive.

I get that fishdoctor. I guess it would need a banner that says something like 'CAUTION. This forum may contain opinions or statements that offend you. If that is unacceptable do not enter here'. Also, it would be necessary to have posts in the Politics forum not be included with other post when one clicks on the 'Latest Reports' option. But I still think it would be an active forum.

Tony, I noticed that there is now a 'photo-attached' type of icon on the title to threads. Thanks for implementing this change. I like it. Also, thanks for listening to our complaints/suggestions on the new format. I know it won't go back to the old way, but the small changes from our suggestions makes it a little easier to get used to.

How about a place to add a caption under pictures.

Tony, I don't know how the internal control systems work to do this. But many forums require a minimum of ninety days or six months membership registration and a certain number of posts (their own original posts and/or comments to other's posts) before the member can post an ad in the classifieds. There are no restrictions on viewing or responding to classifieds, only on posting. Some forums require 50 posts & 6 months, some require 100. But even 25 posts and three months would serve as a gate guard to the classifieds. Such a rule assures posters are participating members of the forum, not just rouge advertisers. It also serves as an incentive to regular members to participate in the forums.

We will add the ability to put captions back in under pictures. Missed that one too. Also, one of our members noted that the search bar in classifieds did not work from a mobile device yesterday - that was fixed.

Huck, I like your thinking. I was wondering how other message boards kept the scams to a minimum. I'll be thinking along those lines. The classifieds are a huge part of this site, but they also cause me to lots of sleep praying someone doesn't get scammed.

Thanks again. Tony

Huck, I like that idea of limiting scammers by # of posts and/or minimum time, but maybe not so many required posts. I'm sure there are many like me who don't post a lot. I have been registered on here since 2008 and I bet I have maybe 25-30 posts in that time. I post when I can, which is obviously not often. I do like the time restraint though.

I hear you mikey. Though it's not much of a chore for regular members to get to 25 posts, or even 50. All they need to do is add a comment like 'nice fish' or 'great picture' to a post or two every time they log on.

I'm always amazed at how few comments are made when someone goes through the trouble of posting something here. We need more participation and back-and-forth dialog. It would make the forum more interesting for all.
