Minn Kota Co Pilot issues

I just got this Minn Kota Copilot for my boat and after getting some work done to it, I mounted it on the boat and it worked fine last weekend down in Fourchon. Had no issues and was very impressed with it. Went down to the camp in Dularge this weekend to do a little fishing. Got to the first spot, plugged it in and heard the normal 'BEEP' it always gives then started to use the remote and everything was fine until I lowered it into the water and it worked for a few seconds then just quit on me. I messed with the trolling motor as much as I could on the water and nothing was happening it just would not work. Pushed the 'test' button on the trolling motor and it showed full battery. It was working fine and then all of a sudden nothing.... no beeps no nothing.... Has anyone ever had this issue before?? I am hoping it is just a dead remote battery because all of my connections seem to be fine. any help is greatly appreciated because it put a huge hamper on the fishing trip.... can't do much sight fishing without a trolling motor

I had a similar issues with my first co pilot. It was the remote. I thought at first I had the remote in a box and the buttons were just held down and the battery died. So I replaced the batteries and then it happened two trips later. these batteries should last ALOT longer than that. So I called minn kota and they sent me a new remote free of charge and have never had a problem since. I kept the old remote as a spare and now I keep extra batteries on board.

FYI these batteries in those remotes should last for months at a time for a normal weekend angler. I am now on my second co pilot and still love having it. I sure hope this helps.

As the other poster stated check your remote battery. If that doesn't work follow the directions for relearning the remote. Unfortunately for me after having mine for three years when I pushed the button on trolling motor head unit there was no audible beep as there should have been. I had to buy a whole new I pilot head because it was out of warranty. But since you just got it you should be covered if you were unlucky enough to have a bad head unit. Good luck!

Just to ad maybe a little more info. I would invest in the foot pad. I know,I know, why would I want a footpad with a remote trolling motor. Believe me Ramsey, its the best 100 bucks you will spend. You cant reel in fish and work the trolling remote. If your remote goes out, or gets dropped over, etc. the pad keeps on going. the only draw back is if you have an I-pilot, you can not use the anchor function from the pad. At any time you walk away from the front end, the remote will work. Believe me Ramsey, it is fantastic to have both.

I agree about the foot control, I got one because at first I didn't like the remote control. I never use it now that I've grown accustomed to remote, but it saved me from not fishing the day my head unit went out. Would have been dead in the water without it. You can never have too many backups!

mine did the exact thing brought to front to back and they said computer board went out was under warranty though
