Sweetwater Marina / Delacroix experience

Let me start by saying Delacroix fishing is my favorite! The redfish are always plentiful and large. I'm not much for trout so can't tell you any sea stories about limiting out in Delacroix. This trip was no different. Fishing Thursday afternoon, Friday, and Saturday resulted in 39 reds, 4 trout, and 7 sheep head.
We stayed at the Sweetwater Marina for the first time. Yes, you can leave your boat in the water but felt I had to bring everything off the boat of any value. I like the launch and leaving the boat in the water allowed us to avoid the morning and evening rush to launch and recover the boat every day. They had live shrimp and minnows, a little pricey, but they had plenty. Gas available on the water was nice. Ice was also available but again a little pricey. I am comparing prices to Leeville.
My only misgivings are about the rooms. Let me start with the good stuff. The bunk beds were nice with good mattresses. I was under the impression when I rented the room that one of the two couches would be a fold out - not true! I discovered that after the office closed at 5:00 PM. I liked the full size frig, larger microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven. None of the light fixtures had more that one small bulb so it was dim in the rooms. The towels provided were not much bigger that a kitchen towel. I called and left a message for more towels and a sheet and blanket for the couch. When we got back from fishing I had a sheet (fitted) which didn't make since, and a blanket, but no towels. I called again the next day to ask for more towels but none were delivered. When I checked out it was explained to me that they do not clean the rooms daily and would have given me towels if I had asked for them. I guess you have to ask in person. For $150 a night I would have expected better.
I would not recommend staying at the Marina unless you bring your own towels and a few extra light bulbs. Finally, about the Marina. I hope you are in good shape because the climb of the stairs is daunting!
Capt Jack left us a note suggesting he smelled smoke in our room. I called and asked about that but was told to ignore it. As I said, there were five of us and none of us smoke. He told us there would be a $50 fee if they had to clean up after smokers.. It should be $100....
Let me finish on a positive note. Fishing in Delacroix is great! Sweetwater Marina has an outstanding launch, friendly people, plenty of bait and ice.

I can't speak for the rooms, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with Sweetwater Marina. Cost is based on convenience and supply/demand. There are not a lot of other options that far away from civilization. You could get ice/fuel/bait cheaper if you don't mind driving 40 min into town and back. My suggestion is to take some of these issues up with the owners before negative review online. Just my $0.02 as a business owner.

I agree with your reply to my comment about Sweetwater Marina.
As I stated in my post I too have had nothing but great service from Sweetwater Marina until I stayed in one of their rooms. I also understand that location and availability have a lot to do with price. If you read my post you would have understood I was comparing Leeville prices to Delacroix. I fish 75% of the time in Delacroix because I think the additional cost is worth the experience. I was not happy with the room situation and I expressed my concerns with the woman at the desk as Capt Jack was out at the time. I will definitely launch at Sweetwater in the future, buy ice and bait, but will not elect to stay in one of their rooms.

Re: Sweetwater Marina / Delacroix experience
We are very sorry you didn't enjoy your experience staying with us at Sweetater Marina. We value all of our customers and welcome their feedback. To that end Capt. Jack spent some time today going through the towels and checking the lights in the rooms to see if they need to be changed or could have higher watt bulbs in them and just generally checking all the rooms. We will also be making sure all rooms have an extra set of sheets, a blanket and a pillow in the drawers under the bunk beds. As for being pricey, we feel that our prices on shrimp and gas are competitive with other Marina's in the area and are more than fair. And we know it's a hike up the stairs, but since we were built after Katrina we had no choice. However, we do take issue with your claim that there was no sofa sleeper in your room. Rooms 2-5, we believe you were in room 5, absolutely all have a full size sofa sleeper (although Capt. Jack recommends just sleeping on ythe sofa though because the sofa bed is not very comfortable). Again, we appreciate your business and the feedback and are changing some things because of it and hope you will give us another try next time you are in Delacroix.

Thanks Capt Jack for your response. I was in room 5 and I checked both couches to see if they were fold-out but was unsuccessful. That doesn't mean one wasn't it just means I did not find it. I thought the couch slept well and had no problems sleeping on it. I agree that your prices for bait and ice are competitive in Delacroix. I was comparing them to Leeville. I always use Sweetwater to buy bait, ice, and launch my boat and will continue to do so. Thanks to hurricanes us old guys will be forced to climb stairs. Your response to checking the rooms for lights, towels, and having additional sheets and blankets shows you really care about proving the best service. Having a supply of towels would be great so people do not have to ask for them daily would also be helpful. Thanks again. Oh! let me say your fish cleaning area is excellent.

Capt Jack,

I have stayed in your Rooms. they were great....they did just as advertised, sleep and shower so you can go fishing as much as possible. Some people think they are going to a mariot resort...I appreciated all you and your staff.
