We decided not to go to the marsh being the journey would've been long and it was a long week. We had a late Friday night because we couldn't stand not seeing Hacksaw ridge (Awesome movie!). I woke the boys for the tour at 5:30. One sprung up like he was hit with a hammer, the other wallowed and rolled. I gave the wallower three chances and then went on with the one.
We set decoys in the bayou and saw nary a wood duck. It wasn't until we picked them up and starting paddling that we spooked many many ducks. We came around a bend and looked into a small cut and to our surprise there were three ducks in the water paddling and playing around. I couldn't believe that they didn't see us, but they didn't. Vaughn lined up on them and pow, pow, pow. One of them stayed and had lots of life left to it. It wasn't until we were 100 yards down the bayou that we finally put the final blow to the duck. We kept on going down the little cut and saw a beautiful drake wood duck on some cypress roots. Just basking without a care in the world. Vaughn lined up on him and blasted him and the roots! Belly up.
That was pretty much the day. I enjoyed and so did the youth. We have a killer on our hands.
