New Boat

Reply

I want to thank everyone who responded to my stolen boat post!! Now I guess I have to buy a new one. I've been looking for the last year, and settled on two. Either a 20ft X-Press or Lakesport CC. I like both boats, and they of course both have their good and bad points. Any input would be appreciated.

Boats
From what I've seen, the X-Press is more solid than the Lake Sport. That's just from my stand point, but both are good choices....

Duracraft
I have a Lake Sport; check out the G3's and Duracrafts.
Good Luck!

i would not buy a lakesport, fished out of one for 2 years and it will beat you to death even on a light chop on the water.i've not riding in a xpress but people say it is a good ride.oh and alos they say dont buy it in crowley(bad service after the sale)...

lakesport
i had a lakesport for a couple of years and had a problem with a hairline crack in the aluminum. it was not around a seam or weld just in the dead center on the flat part of the boat. i also heard of this happening to several others.

Lake sport / Delta Marsh
I bought the 20ft Delta Marsh witha 140 HP suziki 4 stroke. I love it. It does have a rough ride in the chop, but great for marsh. The lake sport is 100 ga alum, the same company makes the delta marsh which is now 125 ga alum. Hope that helps. That's my input of course.

My two cents
I bought a new Xpress HD18CC bay boat with a 90 hp. this past July. It is a great riding boat and can run in very shallow water. The bad news is that I had to send it back to the company in December because the welds on the transom were cracking. Good news is that Xpress has a lifetime warranty on their boats. Worst news is that I still don't have my boat back. Hopefully I'll get it back next week. I'll let you know how Xpress does with the repairs. H&M marine in Crowley will probably have your best price however there service is sometimes not the best. Good Luck.

2 cents too !
Stay with 100ga or better...stay with HP rating on transom...slow down for the bumps...(don't be a cowboy)...you will have it for years...(got a G3 with no complaints)...cheers

the 2 boats
I have a 18ft xpress with a yamaha 90hp 2 stroke. The boat has pleanty of stroage and is wider than the lakesport. The gauge aluminium is the same as the lakesport. The only disadvantage of the xpress is that it has a bigger console than the lakesport, not that big of deal but just wanted to add that in. Also if you could afford it get a 4 stroke much better ride and it is not as noisy as the 2 stroke and you will burn less gas.

Don't Buy In Crowley
Xpress makes a great boat and I'm sure that you would be satisfied with it...However...DO NOT BUY IN CROWLEY! I would drive to Auburn Alabama (I hate Auburn) and pay twice as much for the same boat before I would even walk in to those crooks offices again. Get an Xpress but get yourself a strait dealer. Even if it costs a little bit more.

If you are lookin at flat bottoms?
I've got a J16 carolina skiff that I bought for $1800 brand new. IT has 2 large live wells and a front casting platform. It fell off of my trailer once cause I didn't load it right at night on the trailer. It slid for about 30 feet on the asphalt. The only thing that happened was some gelcoat was scrapped. I have also drifted over many old crab traps that were very incrusted in oysters. It might have a couple of scratches on it. I have owned old boston Whalers and a 20 foot Robalo which I have seen cracks on all of the transoms. I am a capatain on a 100' aluminum crewboat and I have seen big cracks there too. The transom on J16 boat does not have one crack anywhere and I have run aground many times. I am just sayin it is a very good beater for a flat bottom boat.
