I am from Crowley and frequent that area. Years ago, I used to hunt with friends on the bayou and my family owns some land on the bayou between the Esterwood pontoon bridge and Mermentau. The pressure got so bad, we quit hunting on the bayou because there were people set up on every bend. I used to have a bayou hunting boat with a blind so I moved south to a bayou in Gueydan..same thing there.
My uncle has a camp in Mermentau and I am on the river in the summer tubing and boat riding. You will be amazed at how many blinds that there are. They do kill ducks. Most of these blinds are in their spots because people have figured out were ducks cross and like to be over the years.
You can hunt and you will kill a few ducks here and there, mostly wood ducks and teal. It would be nice if you have a place to access the bayou from the bank on your own property, hopefully, in an elbow etc.
Good luck!
