Nice Sherburn WMA Deer

Reply

Killed this buck on Jan 8. 2007 @ 9:00. Saw a couple of does with a spike chasing. Lucky I was unable to get a shot at the spike because this buck came in about five minutes later. First time to hunt Sherburn this year.. Buck was 11 point, 16 1/2 inch spread, 145 pounds,, Wildlife agents said this was app 2 1/2 year old..

Very nice.

2.5yr. old???
The body weight makes sense for a 2.5 year old, if not a little light, but the rack has to be one of the most impressive 2.5yr. olds I've ever seen come from this area. Did the agent look at the jaw or just guess based on the weight?

SWEET DEER!! CONGRATS !!!!!! but that aint no 2 1/2 yr old. Thats what the states want you to beleive!!!. I'd bet he's more like 4 1/2! REALLY NICE WHATEVER THE AGE.

Hard to say
Well I can count all the points....but its hard to tell laying on the ground how old it is but the body lines I can see here point toward a younger deer. Farily slender. Nice Buck

Age explanation
The reason the LDWF representative recorded this gorgeous deer as 2.5 is b/c on WMA's, LDWF personel describe/ record deer in three categories:

1: 6 month
2: 1.5 year
3: 2.5 year +

Statisticlly, for the age structure data they are collecting, this is enough. Once a deer gets older than 2.5 years, the accuracy of aging deer correctly drops unbeleivable, no matter how much training one has.
