Louisiana Gobblers

I'm getting ready for the opener! Here a few neat trail-cam pics from my place in Catahoula Parish.

Very nice pics, I just hope they are not through breeding by the opening of season,their already henned up! Congrats on some beautiful pics of some beautiful birds!

Should be a pretty easy hunt if they stay on that routine. I currently live in Alabama and had 5 longbeards doing the same thing and once they started breaking up, I can hardly get a pic of a single bird. I did call one up for my stepdad this past Sun and it wasn't near where I was getting pics. They are super fired up here yet either. Her one bird gobble twice and another gobble once.

Opening day proved to be tough one, strong storms shut me down early and when I slipped back into my area I flushed turkeys off the roost an hour after daylight. Saturday afternoon I was able to call in two hens. I didn’t even hear a gobbler on Saturday. Sunday morning I heard one gobbler 800+ yards away and tried to cut the distance in half but never got him to answer me. So it was a bust for the opener. I never heard a single shot all weekend long so I guess I wasn’t the only person having a tough time. I’m headed to Texas this Friday for the opener there so I hope for better luck.

I hunted Mississippi and called up a gobbler that hung up at 80 yards one day and just Jakes the next morning. I did get a nice trophy Timber Rattler. I hope I'm hunting Rios this weekend also! Way more vocal.

I hunted Ga this past weekend and killed two birds. Wasn't a ton of gobbling and most birds were super henned up. I was had birds within 80 yards everyday I hunted but they wouldn't leave their hens. I just found two birds that wanted to play the game I guess. One bird was a pretty decent bird super heavy 9 3/4in beard, 1 3/16 spur and 1 1/8 spur and weighed 22lbs 3oz. Other bird was just a two year old. Will be back hunting Alabama this weekend. I aint gone give all the credit to my new gobbler down calls, but I do not necessarily think I would have killed these birds without these calls sounding so realistic.
