Inshore kayak fishing

Reply
Hello fellow sportsman! I have just recently joined the kayak fishing/hunting community and I am very excited to get on the water since summer is finally here! I am from around the Hammond area and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to go catch some reds and speks. Any local places or places near Chalmette/Delacroix area that y'all know of would be awesome! Thanks.

Ya aint gotta make the long trek to Delacroix for nice reds, plenty just outside the mouth of Cane Bayou and heading East towards the Goose Point area and most likely plenty outside the mouth of Bayou Lacombe.I own a few yaks but have much more fun fishing out of my Chapman pirogue and have tangled with some mighty-fine reds the past few weeks.Monday managed to boat one almost 27 inches and lost one much bigger(he bent a jig hook)and another slipped the hook(my bad as I was a tad late on hook-set-was fixing monster backlash and did not fix line quick enough).Launch at Cane Bayou and make the nice paddle the length of Cane and see what the mouth holds.I typicaly head East once I get to the mouth but have caught nice reds both East and West of the mouth, all on Berkely Gulp,Swimming Mullet,Chartreuse!!

Thank you for all the advise! Glad to receive some of that good ole southern hospitality. I'll def have to go out there and see what is lerking in those bayous. I'd also like to start getting into kayaking tournaments.

Had every intention of hitting the nice shorelines outside the mouth of Cane Bayou this am but the strong SE winds had another intention!!!When the water settles down a tad,one can easily sight cast to some nice tackle-busting reds, using nothing more fancy or exotic than Berkeley Gulps, mostly Chartreuse!!What is ultra-cool is to bass and pan fish the length of Cane and then switch gears once at the mouth and I have some archived photos showing a 5-fish stringer of 3+lb specks(from around 2000-2003)!!I just heard that the Bonnet Carre Spillway bays are being opened, not a huge surprise but I hate the short-term effects!!!
