Who has a Summit?

Reply

I've had the Ol Man Vision for several years now and love it. My podnuh FX4KILLA just bought the new Summit Viper and says that it is the bomb. He also has the new aluminum Ol Man Vision which is super lite. Just wondering if anyone else has a Summit stand and how do you like it.

summit
I have hunted out of many types, the summit climbers are the best. light, quiet, safe, easy to use, and comfortable. I have two bullet backpackers. Sold everything else.

i have one
I have both the Ol' man and the Summit Viper. Here is my opinions of the both. The Summit is easer to pack and haul b/c of the lighter weight. I think it is also easier to put on a tree. It is much quieter than the Ol' Man and much easier to put together to put on your back. When climbing with the Viper, the cushion takes up alot of room and gets in the way. Where as the Ol' Man is very easy to climb and descend. As for comfort, the Viper has a very thick seat that is much more comfortable than the netting of the Ol' Man. Just make sure you put the footrest on the Viper and you will be able to sit all day. The only thing I do not like about the Viper is the cushion while climbing and the teeth of the climber. They are not that sharp and have a hard time sticking into some trees. use a heavy duty file and sharpen them. Overall I would go with the Viper.

Summit stand
Hey slickhead slaughter house i have a viper extreme a razor ss and a vision. Of the three i perfer the summit hands down.. the only thing the vision does better is climb pin oaks .. but not as nearly as comfortable...The summit makes more noise puttin it on a tree but with practice you will shift fire and use noise discipline if you have to react to contact and destroy your enemy with overwhelming fire power.. I have some trail cam pic of RED River wma i will put on here for you to see nice deer there. ****When you need a nine line Blackhawks lead the way******

I have two vipers and one ol man. Viper is the most comfortable and I feel more safe in it. Ol man is nice, but it isn't a vipor.

ole man
A friend of mine bought a new ole man a couple of weeks ago on his way to the camp.On his first climb he gets up about ten feet and the cable comes apart.luckily he was not injured. The clamp making the loop on the end of the cable came loose. He cut the rubber hose back a ways so he can get a visual each time he uses it now. Better check them...That being said, I have used the ole man vision for years with no problem. possum

Summit vs Ol Man
I have a Grand Ol man and I now have a Summit Bullet. The Summit Seat is Great very comfortable can sit for hours like a king My Grand Ol man was nice it had plenty of room but the net seat sucks. PLUS the ol man is a steel climber if its rusting inside the tube your not gonna know it until its to late. I usually am about 20 to 25 feet up a tree. The weight wasn't much difference but the rust issue in the back of your mind will make you THINK.

comfort
This year, I purchased a summit seat for my ol man stand and it made a world of difference in comfort. The only thing bad about the ol man is if you climb small trees, the side arms will be too close together and they'll rub on your side(I really don't want to spend the money on spreader arms). I also like the built in gunrest on the vision. I'll be glad when Lafayette Shooters has their big sale. Maybe the summit stands will be on sale. I've got a gift card and it's burning a hole in my wallet.

IT'S PODNUH
I have an Ol' man aluminum vision stand that is barely used. Hunted 3 times in it and killed deer in it every time.
Besides having it, I also have an API and a Summit Viper SS.
I am wanting to get rid of the Ol' man, any suggestions?
All the heat that i have given my buddy is in good fun, glad he killed, i even went as far as to envite him to my honey hole to break his dry spell. We have been good friends for a long time, have lots of memories. watch for snakes.

What do you want for that ol' man? I'm buying. If anybody has the new aluminum ol' mans, or the old composite ones I'm looking. Since everybody thinks there junk, they should sell cheap, right? Email me pics of what you have.

Summit Viper
I have a Summit Viper X5 that I bought from Academy 2 years ago. I love it, I dont think I could have bought myself a better stand. It is quiet, comfortable, light, and secure. I also bow hunt out of it so it works out pretty good both ways. Good luck!!!

Does anybody know where to get a seat for the old man so you can hunt facing the tree? By the way I love my old man.

API Stands
I have an API climber, and to me it feels the safest sitting in the tree. I don't like the way the ole man has a rubber hose for one of its sides. I also dont really care for how the summits dont have a boxing all around the top. But regardless of what kind of climber you use, make sure that you have a rope tying the top part to the bottom part. I have a friend who was hanging in a tree for 20 minutes because the bottom of the stand fell out.

Summit vs Ole Man
I hunted with a Ole Man for 5 yrs. and thought it was the greatest, until I bought a Summit 180 this year. It is a lot more comfortable and you can climb smaller trees with the Summit. If you climb small trees with the Ol Man stands, the arms close in on ya. Also, when you sit in the Summit, your are sitting down more in the stand and the arms are up higher and serve as added protection against falling out, if you decide to snooze a little. I didn't think I would like any other stand other than Ol Man, until I got the summit. And oh yeah, my Ol Man was stolen, so someone really wanted it.....

Kajun01,
Myself, Bigjon, and FX4killa are wargaming the summit purchase as we speak. I will feel more comfortable when I finish the MCOO NLT 1200hrs tomorrow. NAI's have been identified and all avenues of approach are defined. Current SOI in effect.

Using the Summit you will a lot more comfortable to come up with your METT-TC and have a better chance to engage a deer that closes in on the FEBA..While being more comfortable you can wait till it crosses the FPL then engage uning the appropriate ROE with the proper PDF. If all goes well and the deer does not use its natural SERS training you might come out victorious...and if your feet get cold with all this weather use your BVO'S *****Shoot , Move , Communicate*****

After we Index, you are required to enroll in GRAP or ESAR.

As long as we don't have any FRAGO's from the MACOM and you add the summit stand to your METL your should get a clean shot as to not have to use a CASEVAC on the deer...******** Note the remains are usually carried feet first. On vehicles and rotary-wing aircraft, load remains feet first. However on fixed-wing aircraft, load the remains head first with the head towards the front of the aircraft*** Roadrunner 26 out

ENGAGMENT
Just make sure you are lined up on the ILS and that you dont require a PAR. As the min's may cause you to have to RTB. And if you need the NDB insure your VNE doesn't exceed missed approch limits. IDENT and you should be fine at 40 DME!!! RAPCON RULES!!!!

Wargaming
Sounds like The mission analysis (MA), Coarse of Action (CAO), and Wargaming are complete for OPERATION SUMMIT VIPER. Make sure the appropriate FRAGOs and OPORD are published. Additionally, we need to make sure we get the Terrain model set up (preferably of Lake Ophelia) so we can execute the Combined Arms Rehearsal for this mission- AASLT!!!

Missed your SP
The only time that i have a problem with climbing stands is when you arrive late into the woods.
When you first move into battle, you might have little or no time to prepare a position, you must
Prepare a hasty fighting position that 1. Is behind whatever cover is available 2. Provides frontal protection 3. Allows you to shoot to the front and at an oblique angle 4. Is in a small depression or a hole at least 18 inches deep. In red river or lake ophelia, i would not worry about digging the grenade sumps so i did not include that info. What are the CCIR's under normal operations in Lake Ophelia according to SOP?

Summit Viper SS
I just got it this year and have never used anything else so I can't compare, but I love it!! Very sturdy and easy to pack up and head out with it. It is very quite if you need to be, one time while hunting a ridge on a ditch I climbed down, packed it up and got in the canoe, as I paddled down the ditch about 30 yards a hog was laying next to a stump and I blasted him, that is quite! Plus after a little practice I figured how to adjust the cables while climbing, makes it easy on those cypress and tupelo trees!!

A few RFI's
If the operator is transporting the stand while breaching a wire mine obstacle, will the rubber coated cables interfere with movement in the field? Are the Tasks, conditions, and standards clearly defined in the manual in order for the operator to recieve a first time GO?

If the summit stand is succesful and you do engage the enemy with the proper Lake Ophelia (ROE) you will have to **Perform tactical combat casualty care, then initiate a field medical card then call for a nine line medavac. roadrunner 26 out

Based on all previous comments, it has been determined that the Summit Viper SS will be requisitioned on a 3953. Usage will be IAW AR 670-Rincon

Thanks for all the RFI's, SOI's, PCC's, PCI's, SITREP's, MCOO's, AR's, and DPAM's. I promise to maintain equipment to 10-20 Standards. Nothing follows.

I bought a summit goliath in August. I bow hunted out of it at least 10 times this year. I would reccommend this stand to anyone that wants to feel complete confort in their stands. This is the best stand that I have ever hunted out of. I am a big man and their is so much room on this stand. I now atleast 5 of my buddies own one and they all love the summit goliath. It is just like the viper but with a little more roomm and rated for the bigger man.

I too thought Summit was the best until I bought the Equalizer (I had the Bullet Backpacker until I used my Equalizer about three times and realized I would never want to hunt out of the Summit again). The Equalizer is the best hunting product, other than my Remington model 700, that I have ever purchased. It is lighter, easier to pack, much more quiet to put up (I can literally have this stand attached to the tree is less than 20 seconds and it makes no noise) and you can adjust the angle of the stand as you go up the tree so you don't have to guess that correct angle at the bottom. The Equalizer is probably not quite as comfortable as the Summit was, but it's close and all it's other positive attributes outweighed the small difference in comfort for me. You can only buy the Equalizer direct from the company. The web site is www.Equalizer.com. I let my stepson use my Equalizer when I took him hunting and I dreaded the days that I had to use my Summit. Most folks like the Summit just fine, and I did too, until I found the Equalizer. You might consider checking them out before you make your purchase. With the Equalizer you can use a sling type seat like the Summit or a padded seat. You can also buy it with a rifle rest if you like that sort of thing. Best of luck to you and have a great season!

Bought a Summit Viper last year so I could hunt public land. Best investment I have made as a hunter. It feels 100x safer than any of the homemade stands I used growing up.
