Meat Grinders

Reply
I was looking at the Cabelas electric meat grinders and trying to decide which one to buy. I've done the math and it will definitely pay for itself in a few years. They offer the .5hp, 1hp, 1.5hp and the 1.75hp grinders. I'm thinking that the 1hp should have plenty power to do what I need. Do any of you have this type of grinder and/or what size motor? I've seen many smaller grinders bog down while grinding deer due to the tendons, etc in the meat. Let me know what ya'll think.

I have a little meat grinder and when I process a deer I only grind a very small amount of meat so it is plenty. In my opinion you shouldn't have trouble with tendons and such because you should cut that of before grinding or the meat will be subpar on quality.

I just got the 3/4 hp. from Bass Pro for Christmas. It works great. Rating says somewhere around 260 lbs. per hour. I dont know about you but I cant process that much in an hour. Mine rips right through deer meat. Hope you are as happy with whatever you buy!

I have the 1 hp and it will grind it as fast as you can stuff it in there. Just make sure you clean the meat up good and not try grinding the tendoins and fat it will work great.

I bought the one Wal-Mart sells. After about 40 lbs of grinding deer/pork it's alright. Not the fastest, but like others said, you can't keep up with the big ones, and their heavy. Mine was $67.00. Comes with sausage tube, and three different grinding plates. Just another option, or is that opinion......later tater

I also have the newer 1hp. Cabela's. It's a little noisy but grinds and stuff casing as fast as you can feed it.
I have a buddy that has the 1 hp. Torrey. This is a quality machine. It is quiet and never bogs down.

an old trick i use when grinding any type of meat is to cube it up to whatever size and place it back in the freezer for awhile and firm up but not quite frozen --your grinder will grind like a champ--will not even have problems with tendons--rock on
