Duck Identification

Reply
Despite all the negative duck reports this year, I decided to make a hunt anyway. I would like somebody to identify these black ducks. The lake was full of them. I passed up on pintails, mallards, and canvasbacks to shoot these tasty black ducks. I probably could have killed 92 mallards but these ducks just were more fun to shoot. They were working our decoy spread perfect. They taste so good on the tongue and hope these mysterious black ducks show up to the lake next year.

Yes, poule d'eau make good gumbos, but the bad part is skinning and cleaning them before you cook them...talk about stink!!!
Reply
Yes, they do stink but they are really good eating. I rather some good ole coots before a duck any day.

I think the people here in South Louisiana are the only ones that shoot these water chickens. Try smoking them and them cooking them in a gumbo with oysters, best thing you ever will try.

And I think that Lake Boeuf is the only place where people go just to kill cootinannies.

Don't tell everyone about this secret Lake Boueff. No one knows about this hidden place. LOL! It seems like every year there are more and more people!!! I believe it has to do with a lot of public places becoming private, and people got to hunt and eat!

You are correct humpback whales do rock and so do those chickens of the sea or lake!

Why would you shoot something that you did not know what your were shooting? NOT very smart or ethical.

hey, whatever makes a man happy, i say go for it. personally I don't shoot coots cause it aint sporting but to each his own.something tells me the young man knew what he was shooting, at least i would hope so.
Reply
don't know if he knew or not, sometimes got to experiment! I do know he made the right decision! he shot the birds that taste the best!! now that he ate them, no doubt he will do the same thing again for sure, unless he's looking for something to mount on the wall and look at instead of eating it! since his post was on jan 29 2007, I bet he has shot and ate a bunch of coots(pouldeaus) since then!

Sarcasm guys. It was a joke.

Sorry bro!!

Cajun challenge, luk up dat Google tv and type dat coot and dat poule d'eau and just see what us Cajuns been seeing for years.

Last I cheked, in my 68 years of life, us Cajuns know what dem birds are cents we gave dem dey names.

'Ne laissez pas votre alligator bouche obtenir plus grand que votre oiseau chu'

IF you can speak French then hit be back. I would love to have an old fashioned Cajun conversation with you.

Thanks

Because i was born a cajun and more importantly I had many really old cajuns teach me how to hunt, I don't need google to ID my birds.

Unfortunately the language didn't get passed down to us younger guys, just the traditions.

Maybe I can help you ID birds, make a gumbo with em and you can help me learn a dying language.

Gallinule are delicious. Eat dem too.
