Pointe Aux Chene! Help Please!

Reply
We are new to fishing Point Aux Chene, and we are struggling to find places to fish. All we know about is the 1st dam north of the marina. We are worried about running up on mud flats/shell beds. Any tips for specific locations to fish would be much appreciated! Thanks

what are you looking to catch? great places to start would be lake tambour, bay billiot and even out to lake barre. As far as getting stuck well that's just part of it. one of the best things to do is to hire a guide to learn a little of the area. Its well worth the $500 or so that it will cost. You will learn more in that one day than you will in weeks or months of going alone. But I know that's not easy for everyone.

also going across to PAC kayak rentals and talking to mr eddie will help. He is easy to talk to and very knowledgable.

Lahayeoutdoors,

First it depends on what size boat you are fishing out of. If you are fishing out of a alum. boat, you can almost fish anywhere. If you are fishing out of a bay style boat, you need to use more caution. I would suggest idling in areas you are not familiar with until you learn where you can run.

General I fish the to the north if the fall/winter. You can fish the canals around the old sulphur mine and in the mine itself. Fish cuts and points off of these canals. Plastics, fresh shrimp and live minnows work best. To the South, fish the cuts, dams and oyster reefs along the main bayou, the ponds and in Lake Chien, Falicity, Barre and Tambour. Plastics work well in these areas along with Gold spoons. Alot of oyster reefs area marked by PVC pipes are poles around them. However, the unmarked ones are usually not pressured as much. Also, in the lakes, look for birds diving. A lot of times the specks are under them. In the ponds fish cuts, points and grasslines for reds. Also look for hard bottom areas as they seem to hold more fish.

Hope this helps you out.

We are in a 21 ft Fiberglass bay boat

you can easily make it out to lake barre to fish the rigs and islands in that area for trout. matrix shad with chartreuse colors fishing tandem. or live cocohoes under a cork or Carolina rigged

What about in Lake Chien? Can you fish the bank of the lake and get reds? Is there a lot of grass there?

Lake Tambour and Bay Billout would be better than Chien for reds You can troll into some ponds out towards the lake but I would not recommend running into them as some are shallow and have oyster reefs. Shrimp under a cork fishing cuts and points work fairly well for the reds/drum.

also try grey duck bay on the far eastern edge of PAC. it is southwest of catfish lake and east of billiot. Catfish lake is another great area.

Right now you can catch specks in Grand bayou late afternoon and early morning. . Birds will be flying all over chasing shrimp. Fish to right of marina and to left going towards dam. Fish LSU colored or Chartreuse artificial minnow. Double rig works best. You can catch your limit every afternoon across the marina by pipeline signs. Reds also at dam on cracked crab or cut bait.

This is how I learned to run the marsh if there are lines of crab traps you can run, if there are not any use caution NOTE--please don't run right over the tops of the traps!!If it is a named lake or bay these rules generally do not apply!!
