Grand Isle Surf Fishing/Crabbing

Reply
I am planning a birthday weekend for my sister late September early October to Grand Isle. Is the surf fishing and or crabbing any good at this time. I'm thinking crabbing may still be okay but fishing not so much. Any help would be appreciated!

Fishing should be great. Now whether they are in the surf is another question. They may have already decided to transition. If you don't have a boat, fish Hwy 1

Thanks Flondergal. That's what I'm wondering is if the surf fishing will be any good. I know typical the beaches are good midsummer but wasn't sure of late Sept early Oct

I think they will be transitioning but something you may want to think about is taking her mid-October for the Ladie's fishing tournament. Looks like fun.

Got back this past Sunday after staying on Grand Isle Thursday through Sunday. We only caught 1 crab in the surf using turkey necks and a crab trap. I left out my crab trap overnight and someone cleaned it out and cut 2 holes in it. Called Camardelles Seafood to buy some crabs and the lady said they put out 80 crab traps and only caught 5 dozen crabs, this was Saturday. Not only that, the wind was blowing 18-20 mph so the surf was rough all weekend. We caught one 17' redfish out of all the days fishing. We used live shrimp, artificial swim baits, sparkle beetles, Mirrodine 52MR Suspended Twitch Bait and no luck. From what I am seeing looks like if the conditions are right, you should be able to catch some specks at Elmer's Island. Crabs probably wont be in the surf until late June & July. Hope this helps.

crabs are best in august. specs in the surf is now, but conditions have to be right.

How is the road to the beach along Elmers Island? Is to travelable with a motorhome?
