Grand Isle vs. Venice

I am planning on fishing in October, offshore for palagics, tuna, wahoo, dolphin, kings, etc..

I know Venice is stellar for targeting these animals, but offers little for the non-fisherman (wives, girlfriends, etc.). Also, on blow days it offers little in entertainment and restaurants. I am not interested in fishing for Reds and trout.

With that said, can I have equal success fishing out of Grand Isle offshore?

The Mississippi offers protection on the route south to the rigs and shrimp boats. How far would I have to travel to get to productive rigs and water from Grand Isle in October?

Please feel free to offer comments on bait, fuel, lodging, food, etc...

Re: Grand Isle vs. Venice
Being that you are looking to fish in October, my experience is the tuna fish are behind the shrimp boats, lots of blacks and big yellows mixed in, summer months are the months for mahi, October can produce wahoo, I've had good luck on the east side floaters, Grand Isle is always a further ride, due to the fact you are further from deep water. I recommend Venice, lots of good knowledgeable capt's.

Thanks pointealahache23.

Yes, we always go the first week of October to Venice. As our family grows, we are looking for a more family friendly area, beyond just a fish camp.

I'd like to also hear from the Grand Isle captains.

Are the tuna behind the shrimp boats any closer to Grand Isle this time of year?
Can the bigger, faster boats reach the tuna from Grand Isle?
How are the marinas, bait shops, restaurants over by Grand Isle?
