Cocodrie this weekend

Going fishing this weekend with some friends in Cocodrie. Wanted to know where best to try for specs and reds. Not looking for honey holes just an general area and tips. Also, if someone knows where to catch some bull reds for catch and release. I've never fished the area and want them to enjoy the trip. Thanks in advance for any info. Cheers

This time of year, you can catch fish off side the road down there without even launching a boat. You won't have a hard time locating any fish. Same rules apply as just about everywhere; find clean moving water, look for bait movement, bird activity, points and cuts. Don't go out without a GPS, it all looks the same down there.

GOOD LUCK! Post a report when you get back!

Man we went this weekend and caught about 100 trout. Unfortunately only 5 were keepers. We hit multiple sets of diving birds from Bay Negreese to Madison bay. Fun day for sure but a little frustrating with not very many keepers. 5 trout and 5 reds. Threw back a few drum and gaftop. It's been a weird year in Cocodrie for us. Lots of undersized trout unless we went to the DU or Fourchon. Hope it gets better as its my favorite area to fish. Good luck, please let us know how yall do!!

Fished Friday afternoon and caught 4 nice reds. Went though Sevin canal and hit points with maker shrimp under cork. Wind was strong. Went back out Saturday morning around 7 and stayed in Sevin canal looking for trout. Used minnows under cork and took some time but I limited out by 1030. Bite was steady and only moved a couple of times but stayed in canal. Only caught on north side of canal. Went for reds again in evening and got 3 keepers. Alot of throw backs for reds. 3-4 to one. Mostly keepers on trout. Nothing huge, most were 12-14 with a few 16-17's. Came back early Sunday. First time fishing area and didn't burn 10 gallons! A lot of fish in area, easy to get around. AWESOME CATCH!
Wish we could have found those keepers when we were there HaHaHa. We actually started in the mouth of Sevin canal where it dumps in the bay that morning. We picked up a lot of 11.75 in trout and a ton of white trout. Sounds like we just missed the keepers by a week. Thank you for getting back with us, and glad you had a productive day! Tight lines!

I was on the other ed of the canal. Sometimes it works out for me. I'm usually told I should have been there yesterday. Cheers
