SWLA Marsh hunting

Reply

Been the strangest year I can ever remember. We are consistently killing ducks but lots of divers ( scaup & ring-neck ), a few greys and a few teal. We normally don't even see divers till late December or early January but they have been thick since the season opened. Anyone else in this part of the state struggling to see good numbers of puddle ducks like greys, teal , etc ? Not complaining, just observing an abnormal pattern for our area.

Happy hunting

I was thinking maybe the lack of water up north has brough them Down earlier. Puddle ducks should be showing up in big numbers the next couple days.

We have so many in SELA i am thinking about staying in the Lake and setting longline decoys and targeting divers.

kenspeck,

Ditto your post in SE LA with the exception of ring necks in our area. Very few greys and teal, although I did see several nice bands of green winged teal buzzing over the marsh prairie last Sunday. Since it will be about 17 degrees at the Louisiana - Arkansas line tomorrow night if we don't bust up the ducks this weekend I think all hope will be gone for the year.

Good luck out there.

hollier on de bayou,Bayoubob said he saw tons of dosgris today hunting his favorite spot and I saw not a dosgris, guess they tend to favor certain ponds, locales, etc and I got burned by at least 5 blue wing teal-hard when ya hunting solo and these teal made absolutely zero noise, buzzed me right after legal shooting!!!If someone were to target scaup, tons in certain ponds where we hunt!!!!Thanks but no thanks!!!
