Where are some good WMA's I can go on a limited budget?

My buddy and I have a 16' fiberglass john boat with a 4 hp engine, and a mixed bag of about 100 decoys, and I have a pretty good chessie/lab mix. I really enjoy hunting divers (cans, redheads, bluebills), but I'm not too picky. Anything with wings will make me happy. We're trying to go on public land and just shoot something. Anybody willing to share some places with us? Thanks

We first need to know what area you are in. There are many public areas around the state.

I'm in Baton Rouge, but I'm willing to drive up to about 2.5 hours

Look into the horse power restricted areas in point aux chene, perfect for your set up

With a boat with that small of a motor, venturing too far into Lake P not a prudent choice but if ya play de winds just right, plenty of divers, including some trophy canvasbacks can be shot along the pristine NShore lines, any day of the week, just make sure you are NOT on Federal Land on days other than Wed,TH,Sat,Sun!Check out Google Maps and look at areas near Bayou Lacombe and ya might try the windy trenasse just a tad N of mouth of Bayou Lacombe, though water levels gonna be ridiculously low right now.Might not be bad idea to launch off Lake Rd and follow treelines, never know where de mallards and woodies and possibly mottled ducks gonna be,just camo de flat completely!!

There are some WMA's in the Monroe area that are good Upper Ouachita and Wham Break which are both part of Russle Sage WMA they hold thousands of Birds I have had a lot of Luck on Wham Break it is very stumpy so be careful it is a flooded Bean field your best chances of killing birds are to be in the middle of wham and call loud the birds are picky on where they want to go but I have been in a hole before where we came out with a 5 man limit just depends on how good you can call and how good your spread looks. Be careful and be safe hope this helps.
