Wanted to hit a few of my favorite Honey Island Swamp sloughs early this am but did not arise bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as our lovable chocolate lab,Molly, has severe anxiety with bad weather and bad weather hit us in Mandeville around 1:30 am or so and she was an absolute basket case and she and our younger son's adorable Chinese Pug both sleep with us and Molly needed plenty of TLC and when the 4:45 am wake-up call came,Wifey decided to let me sleep in and I hit de Swamp closer to 9:45 am and saw some dog hog hunters running their radio-equipped hog dogs and they had nice hog atop their dog cages and I chatted briefly with them, told em I was seeking squirrels and had spotted huge dead boar hog about a month ago, someone musta shot him and decided against dragging his burly body out!!!Only saw two squirrels and both were extremely spooked, guess the dogs might have had a thing or two with getting tree rats spooked and I did spook very fine little hog, completely black, and woulda been perfect sized for the grille, had I spotted him before he spotted me and trotted off quickly! One problem I encountered was extremely high water and I was not interested in trying to cross the numerous swollen sloughs, had knee boots on and not gonna wear chest waders, not for tree rats or even hogs!Did spot snakey snake, probably mud snake,I am by no means a snake expert and I do not indiscriminantly shoot snakes, especially non-poisonous snakes and did see a few frogs and crawfish, not a bad sign!!Pretty soon gonna chase some Honey Island mini-lobsters,just a tad early!!
