First turkey

Great first kill experience! I was alone on a friends property and decided to make a mid day hunt. I had spooked a bird after a long wait from a morning gobble on the opener. He walked right up on a buddy and me without a peep. So Saturday at noon I went back to same spot, found a better vantage point of where I thought he came from. I gave a couple putts, then yelped and he gobbled! I shut up! I putted and purred once within 20 minutes, and all the sudden I saw his head coming up the logging road from the bottom. He got within 25 yards and started strutting and drumming and gave me a good shot! Great hunt, first turkey finally. This is season 4 for me and I’m totally hooked.

Congrats. Nice bird. I don't think you were putting to him. A putt is an alarm call and he would of melted away from you. You must be clucking. A cluck and putt are similar butt putt is higher intensity and more pitch, hard to turn a turkey once he or another has putted. That means they have been threatened or seen some sort of predator.

Haha! You’re right, my turkey lingo is still in it’s early stages as is my skills! But none the less, it worked twice in a week! I’m hooked for life.
