Big Alabama Sherburne

Thinking about going to Big Alabama on Mardi Gras day. Anyone know if the bass are biting. Or would I be wasting my time. What colors, and what type of cover. Any info is appreciated.

The water level started falling about a week ago, but is still very high.

Is that good or bad? I've never fished there before so I don't know. If it keeps falling should it be good by Mardi Gras?

No the fish are not biting, waters muddy, go home.!!!!

I have found that on Mardi Gras day, fish do not bite. Although, I don't know about places that I've never fished before. I guess I'll never know since I wouldn't want to waste my time exploring a new place not knowing if I'll strike out or not. I'll probably just go to the store and buy fish from now on.

I hunt at Sherburne. It has been many years since I fished there.

The falling water should help the fishing because most of the water will be out of the woods in another week or so.

Besides Big Alabama, you might also give Little Alabama a try. The Little A. launch is a 1/4 mile south of the Big A. launch along the West river road near the Headquarters/ camping area.

The last time I went to Big Alabama, the ramp was torn up. I wouldn't even attemp to put my boat in there.

A friend and I went out to fish Big Alabama Bayou for the first time this past Wednesday (2/14/07), we launched the boat at the south launch which was in great shape. It was very cool and windy that day so I wasn't expecting much (just happy to be off of work and on the water), after several hours of fishing we had caught only one bass which was about 12" long on a black and gold brush hog. My same friend and another friend of mine went out yesterday (2/18/07) to try again since the temp had been warming up alittle. They fished for both bass a crappie but caught nothing.

Like I said when I had gone out the the conditions were not very good but it so beautiful out there.
