Apple Snail Invasion

Reply

Apple snails and their eggs were recently discovered in the canals in Luling. The canals ultimately drain into the Lake Cataouatche basin. These things will eat out the grass in the blink of an eye. We are just now getting some nice grass beds back. If you see the pink eggs over the water, please take the time to knock them into the water where they will die. You mainly see these eggs in the spring.

Thanks

Make sure not to touch the eggs with your hands, I hear that they are poisonous to the touch.

Fished Cataouatche this past Saturday and the Pier 90 launch had the pink eggs on the wharf pilings. My son and his friend enjoyed knocking them in the water.

They are all over the trees up into the Mermentau River. Crazy.
