Opening duck season better than expected

Not a bad opener at all at our lease. We hunt in southern Terrebonne parish. Thank the good Lord we got our front on Saturday morning. What a blessing!

Life has been busy and we barely had time to get out to the lease to do any work on blinds prior to. The two blinds we did get ready before dark on Friday night turned out they were high and dry after the front blew all our water out. We scrambled to figure out where to hunt just after daylight. The greys and teal did not disappoint even after setting up and getting settled in just before 8!

On Sunday, water came back up some and again the birds cooperated.

It was a great opener considering the early reports.

On another note, also had a group of 10 fiends that hunted the public WMA's in Venice and they all limited out easily.

This weather pattern is expected to continue, hopefully the ducks will to!!

Heard similar reports from both Delacroix/Hopedale and Venice and I am optimistic that my local Marsh will not disappoint.Hope springs eternal and got plenty of giant palmetto branches to keep us hidden!!

Nice harvest of birds , would expect up to have kill switch attached to you or life vest while under way , the state doesn’t need another sad story on the news besides it’s the law in Louisiana !

tom1959,My buddy,a very nice Medicare Client of mine, snagged a ton of huge palmetto branches on the MS Gulf Coast, think near the big casinos and I found a decent supply of much thinner-stalked palmetto branches in Madisonville, not far from Hwy 22.They work ok just not nearly as sturdy as the giant palmetto branches I usually get on SShore.I like the thick-stalked ones as they are easy to shove into marsh mud and the way I angle them in towards the center-line of my Chapman, ducks above have zero chance of spotting me and when they do spot me,I am typically dropping them onto de pond!!!I make a tee-pee style of blind and with a 2-man Chapman, have plenty room for shell box, milk crate with soft cushion and all my other gear and stay dry, dry, dry and keep Beretta from being a push-pole!!!Good luck and ya might luck out and find the Holiday Inn in Kenner trimming their thick palmettos and they usually stack em up to be hauled off!!!
