Re: Buffleheads
Buddy of mine shot a handful few days ago in Delacroix!I actually shot a few a couple of seasons ago in the Big Branch Marsh, doctored dem babies up and stir-fried em and they were not bad at all!!Hope to shoot more teal and greys vs handful of buffleheads but they are most definitely not a terrible duck for the table, much better than scaup,in my humble estimation!!!

killed one about 30 years ago in the spillway off grand river in mims lake. Beautiful Birds. Wish I'd mounted him. haven't shot one sence. Then again, they fly like Hooded Meganzers, so if i see that I pull off the shot. HM are nice to look at and a challenge to shoot, but leave much to be desired for table fare.

We have been seeing buffleheads in decent numbers this year, they don't seem to decoy very well they have a flight path and stick to it usually low to the water.

Chute em,they actually are not that bad and I doctored one up a few years ago, soaking it in salted water for a few days to get the fishy taste out and once I stir-fried dat lil jewel, tasted like a teal.Kinda wish we had ducks of any kind where we hunt(there are a few small, scattered groups of decent ducks way E of where I hunt but I hate chasing shots and crowding folks, especially on Public Land/Federal Land)and once I finally get flat back hope to chase much more desirable species like fine mallards and know where they hang out, just not feasible to try to paddle in to where they hang out!!

PS Do not try eating a doggone hooded merganser!!!

Shot 4 females this year in the Cocodrie area. Also saw a couple flocks flying around later in the season. I find it weird because I had never seen them before.
