The 1st split started very slowly, but ended very nicely. Can't wait for the 2nd split, it should be more consistent . How did y'all finish up?

Re: 1st Split
First Split extremely disappointing, ended First Split with two greenheads and whiffed on gift flock of 6 greys and only had two shooting opportunities.Few ducks where we hunt, though found some willing participants in certain remote locations, chore and a half to get to em!!Hope to get after some quality ducks Second Split.Second Split cannot possibly be worse than First!!

Finished with 65 down in Pecan island. We were the opposite on the ducks thou, we did really good the beginning of the first spilt and then it slowed up quite a bit the last three weekends. We shot mostly teal, a hand full of greys, a few spoons ,and a few scalp. Made 8 hunts total. Hopefully we get a new push of ducks for the second split. On another note some guys I work with just got back from Idaho way up by Canada, and they smashed the ducks last week almost all Mallards. In three days they shot over 120 ducks. Here we or in December and the big push of ducks is still way up there, we need some artic air bad.

9 hunts 115 birds in first split in 1 blind 3-4 hunters per hunt majority of ducks were teal also killed 25 geese in SWLA. 2nd split is shaping up to be a huge bummer as we now have less ducks than we did to start the season. Thankful for the geese!!

CalcasieuLaRoux,Wish we could replicate de success you have had-we have been lucky to get about one duck per hunt, terrible results but I aint for one complaining as most of what I ended up shooting and my buddies as well were good ducks with a Woodie,3 greenheads,3 mottled ducks and handful of greys and teal and thankfully, only one scaup!!Hoping that Second Split gonna be better as where we hunt, the water levels typically tremendously limit not only where we can get but also where the ducks can get and do have a few aces up my sleeve(just ordered 6 new Avian X Topflight greys,to go along with fine Higdon flocked-head magnum mallards and new Higdon widgeons-love the foam-filled decoys as when the water gets tad rough, they do not un-naturally bounce around like hollow decoys typically do)!!Plan to scout limited access portion of Joyce WMA for possible woodies and mallards(have die-hard hunter that hunted Joyce way back in de day)and where I intend to hunt this week end most likely gonna not only be de 'X' but also ridiculously hard to get to(limits pressure big-time and I love dat)!!!Good luck Second Split!!

Thanks and hope Santa comes early(he already has dropped me off some fine new dekes-Rogers has Avian X Topflight coming to me Fri-hopefully with enough time to rig em up)!!!Love the ultra-realistic Battleship Higdon mallards and just yesterday, celebrated my 60th birthday and our St.Jane de Chantal coffee group met for Christmas breakfast and I was serenaded with nice Happy Birthday(now I only need $5 for all my licenses, except Fed Duck Stamp)!!!Can't wait for Second Split to hopefully harvest some mallards and whatever greys may have migrated(never count on dat, just capitalize upon familiar year-year pattern-plenty tree-line ducks, hard to get to em!!).Ask ole T.Wayne Brewster(he sent me private e-mail last year and we exchanged stories)!!!Gotta know where to go and gotta go to know!!

Mandevillian.never stopping in quest for non-pressured ducks!

Only hunted opening weekend in Pecan Island. Haven't had time to hunt since then. Ended up with 1 BW and 3 spoonies (2 man) on Saturday and 4 BW teal on Sunday (3 man). I know some of my family members nearly scratched over Thanksgiving. How has everyone else done down there?

Not sure how the SW part of LA faring out but my wife just picked up very nice Medicare Client whose family owns a campground in Venice and he is not a duck hunter but knows a lot of die-hard Venice hunters and when Venice duck hunting is way off, guess what that means for the rest of us-pretty dismal!!!I always hold out hope for Second Split, especially where I hunt as that is typically when I shoot more mallards than ever and we sometimes get decent migrations of our bread-n-butter greys but often they only show up very sporadically and I take what Mother Nature gives me,other than a bunch of spoonies and scaup.I will seek some mallards this week end and hope to shoot some teal and possibly woodies as well and again never count on greys as they have not been consistently showing up and have definitely changed where they do show up and are seeking very secluded ponds vs big open water,at least where I typically hunt.Time for putting on de paddling gloves and push poles and slogging to secluded spots, well away from open water!!!
