Re: Best Duck Hunt for our Struggling 2018 Season
Been perhaps the absolute worst season in my 20 plus years of chasing waterfowl and not sure if I have enough in me to even think about trying this week but probably will get out with the front predicted to increase our wind speed and direction(hope it don't blow all the water outta Marsh!!).Found very few ducks on last few hunts but have seen where they 'want to be' vs where I want them to be and will do my best to make effort, either Wed of Th,to get right on dat proverbial 'X'.Saw nice flock of about 8 head to one particular area and saw what appeared to be fine pair of mottled ducks head to fine pot hole in same general area and did get de ole Southfork back from Chuck Evans and she is again a beast, had fog to contend with Sun and on Sat missed easy shot,Sun did not fire a shell and neither did Bayoubob, hunting a nice pond a good ways from me and Medicare Client(another die-hard).Think we may chase some Honey Island woodies tomorrow, hit the sloughs for tree rats, then tackle some wood work and glass work on antique Chapman pirogue(always joke with de young guns we meet that my Chapman no doubt older than they are and she is plenty serviceable, even after over 32 years of rugged use!!)Least yall shot some ducks and woodies are one of my favorites.

This was the most ducks we have seen in our area all season. The water was super high in our area, so I'm actually hoping some water does push out a little bit because some of our cover for the boat was a bit messed up. Hopefully the last couple weekends will be productive to finish off the season strong!

Hope springs eternal and ya can't imagine my excitement when a gent that has been following my posts here sent me an e-mail asking if I would be willing to take he and his kids on nice blast and cast on private land that his family has owned since the 1900's!!!Gonna get with him pronto to strategize and headed back to familiar NShore Marsh spots tomorrow and Th.Walked the Big Branch squirrel woods today(doggone Honey Island Swamp closed due to flooding)and had to swap out lead shells for steel#4 as Big Branch only allows steel for squirrels and rabbits.Did not see a single tree rat but spotted smallish coon walking right towards me and let em walk(never a good sign seeing coon during daylight hrs)!!Good luck to all duck hunters and hope to finish this miserable season strong!!!
