Grand Isle Sheephead Tradition

It’s seems like we have the same weather and fishing transition every year. I ran the first scouting trip last week with high hopes of landing some nice trout. The weather finally cleared and we started the adventure before daylight , we fished hard from Grand Isle and traveled all the way to East Timberlier Island. The water was muddy with a good tide and slick conditions. We were armed with like shrimp and tried every style without a single bite. So just like every year before we hit the back up plan and headed to the fist set of rigs. We switched to jig heads with shrimp and right on time every drop produced a sheephead or a lucky red fish. The Rule is when you can close the fish box that is too much sheephead. If this is your thing now is the time to load the box every cast, I would also recommend a sawzall fillet knife. We are looking for a promising trout year and hopefully the weather and water clears.
