can anyone answer about the water levels. does opening the spillway have anything to do with the high water we been having around houma the bayou black area. was going bass fish this morning and the water keeps going higher. some people say it has no affect some people say it does. i just know the water is not going down but getting higher.

Spillway opening makes no difference in that area. More likely the high dirty Atchaflaya River running through Intercostal Waterway.

The level of the Mississippi River is the tale-tale. Like the other gentleman stated, the spillway has no effect on bayou black water levels...that is controlled by the Attachfalya basin....i can tell you from experience that catching fish from now until the Miss. River crest is difficult unless you have access to the ponds, which most of us don't. Once the river crest and starts coming down, you'll get the tide starting to pull those fish out the marsh and you can catch them in the trenasses draining the marsh. If i recall correctly, the river normally crest in late April or May...hope this helps...and yes, i know you can still catch fish but the draining marsh is what most people look for.
